12oz. bottle

Pours a cloudy golden color with a small white head that fades. Mild lacing on the glass.

Fruity, wheat beer aroma. Smells quite spiced. Not a whole lot of saison funkiness detected.

Light and fruity what beer taste upfront, immediately overrun by spices. Fairly bitter until the finish, ends up dry with lingeirng spice.

Medium-light body, medium carbonation.

Overall, not much of a saison. Not a struggle to drink by any means, but the spice is more than necessary.

This poured a pretty hazed golden yellow with a fat head of creamy foam that lasted well enough and left a layer on top. Some lace. Nose is earthy, funky beligian, with a touch fruit rind from orange and lemon, a bit of coriander spice and a cracker malt that sports a bit of dry biscuit. Taste follows the nose all the way. Except it offers a touch of tartness and as the beer warms the fruity scent of white grape to sweeten and enliven it so that the second half of the glass is even better than the first half. The mouthfeel is medium light and a amply carbonated.

This beer is an unexpected delight. A nice sweet honey kissed malt presence with belgian and fruity drink that surprises you as it continues to change in the glass form earthy to fruity as it warms. I got this in the singles and I am going to get one fresh just to see how it is.

Animated and lively =)

I love session ales (Boat Beer, Bitter American), and I love Smutty Nose. So I am pleased to review this beer on the high side. Wish it came in cans. Could be a regular for me.

A: Great apricot color and energetic pin point carbonation as it should, with a head ring that laces with plenty of stick.
S: Plenty of aroma that blends Belgian yeast with malt, and is fairly simple, inviting, appetizing.
Floral and spicy finish.
T: Again, plenty of flavor for a low ABV beer, follows the smell. Yeast, malt, grain, and a little pineapple. Sweet but balanced. Good clean finish, despite it being sweet, with faint flowers and coriander.
MF: Good sweet-bitter balance. Again, much simpler than a belgian, but who cares that it match the style: it's a session ale with spice - exactly right. Plenty of body.

Smuttynose offers a low ABV beer that I could make a repeatable go-to in my fridge. (If it came in cans). Bravo.

Pours a pale yellowish green with a white head = little retention.

Smells of fresh citrus and sour yeast.

Taste is lemon zest and sour fruit backed by biscuity malt flavor. The finish is dry and clean. A very nice tasty belgian with a punch of hops and malt.

Poured into a pint glass: color is gold, head is off white, presents 1/4 inch thick, dissipates to a ring, some bubbles on the glass.

Smell is pleasant, definitely noticeable honey malt, as its sweet but not caramely, subtle yeast spice and grassy hop flavor.

Taste is crisp, flavor is milder than the smell would lead to believe, but still flavorful at this size: malt is lightly sweet, hint of toast, lighter flavor from the hops, mostly earthy and grassy.

Mouthfeel is crisp, good carbonation, good lingering flavor.

Overall, a very good ale for this strength, nice honey malt flavor and good, crisp mouthfeel.

12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip.

Appearance: Pours a bright, clear but dense gold with a three-quarter-inch white head that recedes quickly. Lacing is moderate. Looks tasty.

Aroma: The nose is full of citrus, lemon and grassiness. Also some clove in there. It's a very full, inviting smell.

Taste: The taste follows the nose, with the citrus notes standing out the most. It also has a faint herbal quality to it. The grassiness in the nose is pleasant on the palate; it's not like drinking yard clippings or anything, there's just this "fresh cut grass" note going on. Some hop bitterness is also present. Alcohol is faint at best. It's a tasty session ale.

Mouthfeel: Decent body for a golden ale. Not watery, but certainly not heavy.

Overall: Pretty great sessionable ale. As American golden and pale ales go, this definitely has more complexity and flavor than most. Perfect spring or summer beer that can also work in the colder months. I had this while watching the Oscars; McConaughey might not drink this, but I'll have another.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a snifter. Purchased in Cranston, RI. Best by 11/29/13.. a few months past it's prime.

A- Pours a super hazy, light dull orange body with a small white head that reduces to a thin layer.

S- I definitely get the belgian spices in there .. cloves and some cinnamon, bananas, citrus peel.

T- Pretty light on the tongue with subtle flavors of oranges, citrus peel, banana, allspice, belgian yeast. Wheaty aftertaste.

M- Light, crisp, sessionable. Pretty carbonated.

A decent beer.. I could definitely throw a few back on a hot summer day.

look: 3 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 2.75 | feel: 3.25 | overall: 3

Appearance: Fairly cloudy golden color.

Smell: At first you smell the spice then the fruit overall hard to pin down but a little sweet.

Taste: Similar to smell first the spices hit your tongue but quickly turns fruity. Not much of an aftertaste the flavors dissipate quickly.

Mouthfeel: Fairly light, but with plenty of flavor very crisp finish.

Overall: At first I really liked this beer but after having a few I'm not quite as high on it. Still a good beer tho not sure I would get a six pack but happy to have 3 in a smuttynose sampler. Unique but not stellar.
