Notes & Commercial Description:

Made for taking a break from the Sturm und Drang of modern life, this elegantly refreshing pilsner was created with German malt balanced with the spicy tang of Czech Saaz hops. The bread and biscuit flavors of the grain are topped with the floral character of the Noble hop, which may just get you to shimmy into your favorite lederhosen, bust into a quick schuhplattler and loudly proclaim, “Das ist Vunderbar!” Prost! 15 IBU (AKA - Short Batch #11)

Pours a hazy straw yellow with a pillowy white head that dissipates slowly, leaving spotty lacing.

Grain, cracker-like pilsner malt, and floral hops form the initial aroma. Grain and perfumey notes are in good balance.

Flavor reveals an underlying citrus character, followed by strong graininess mid palate, finishing slightly dry and spicy. Notes of lemon peel and a touch of earthy minerals add complexity. The finish is fairly bitter.

Body is moderate to a touch light, with fairly high, spritzy carbonation.

Very drinkable beer. Though atypical of the style, the lemony note is refreshing and a nice complement to the graininess and bitter hops. (653 characters)

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light yellow color, with a short white head that fades slowly and leaves a spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains light caramelized malts, lager yeast and a good amount of hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with lager yeast and a thin malt character. Then a decent hops presence comes in followed by a mild malt and citrus sweetness creating a very good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

O: Tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid lighter beer to session with for a long time. (739 characters)

Serving: 12 oz bottle poured into a stemmed Pilsner (beer tulip) glass (stamped "best by 03/02/15").

Appearance: Bright but hazy yellow gold, crowned by a frothy head of white bubbles. Spotty lacing and a fringe of white foam linger.

Smell: Pleasant doughy malt, very light yeasty bread, lemon zest and floral hops.

Taste: Full but delicate malt; fresh white bread. Hints of lemon, even berries, as well as light hop spice and just enough balancing bitterness.

Feel: Light to medium body and carbonation with an overall smooth feel.

Overall: Light, crisp, balanced and refreshing. (585 characters)

Long time want. Best by 15 Feb 2015. Bottle from Julio's.

Pouring a clear golden yellow with a dense, white head with excellent retention and lacing, this looks awesome. The nose is great. Bright, snappy , crisp and refreshing, there's a blend of lemony Saaz hops, doughy pils malt , mildly earthy and mildly perfumey hops and a touch of cotton candy. The lemon character is so pure, so deep and yet so complex and so subtle. Magnificent.

The palate opens crisp and clean with a blend of pleasant lemony Saaz bitterness, earthy hops and a mild doughy sweetness. Despite the pronounced hop character, it is lacking in that snap that the best German pilsners have. A very faint butterscotch character is present on the mid palate. Drying on the finish with a blend of lemony bitterness, earthy, woodsy hop flavor and a sweet dough flavor, this beer is crisply carbonated and quite excellent on the palate. Excellent stuff. (925 characters)

Pours straw colored and with a slight haze. White foam to crown this beer that lasts and hugs the glass to the very end. Nose is soft pils malt, with a a cheeky little peppery herbal from hops. Some spice to tickle the nose. Taste is vibrant. That soft and graceful malt rolls over the palate with a light touch of fine golden sweetness. The hops are leafy and herbal, peppery and lean onto the palate only whimsically with a very slight bitterness to take you in to a clean and dry finish. Pils malt is a wry touch breaddy at the swallow and this beer was VUNDERBAR! (574 characters)

Smuttynose is right on the money with both name and taste on this pilsner!
Poured from bottle to Sam Adams glass.
Nice bright white head that settled quickly, leaving some lacing behind. Very light yellow color that was slightly opaque.
Smell was on the sweeter side, with just a hint of the hop fragrance.
Taste was smooth and refreshing with very little bitterness left behind.
I could chug quite a few of these!
Prost! (422 characters)

Best by 11/13/13.Poured into a pilsner dulled lemon tinged lighter golden with a sticky half finger white head atop,a decent amount of broken lace left behind as it settled.I get a whiff of floral and herbal hops right up front with a tinge of iron and bread dough, northern German hopped up pilsner is what Iam thinking.Pretty dry and crisp on the palate with a mineral tinge, leafy and floral hop profile, and a firm bready base although not over done in the doughy department.A clean hoppy pils but with real flavor,it's gonna go good with the sausage and sauerkraut in the slow cooker. (586 characters)

A: A straw colored beer with excellent clarity. The rocky white head fades to a ring of foam and a thin film of bubbles.

S: Hello Saaz hops! Lots of spicy and floral Saaz with some light grassy notes and moderately-strong Pilsner malt. There is a bit of biscuit and bread to malt aroma.

T: A medium, spicy hops flavor and bitterness with the moderate honey, malt flavor of the Pilsner malt. There are some secondary malt characters of biscuit and bread but the balance of this beer is fairly bitter. There balance of flavors is pretty good but it falls apart a bit with a little harshness in the finish.

O: A crisp, hop focused, bitter beer that is slightly unbalanced but to be fair the brew suggested an enjoy by date about six weeks back. It's still a pretty decent beer but I can imagine this is a very good beer when it's fresh and I'll keep an eye out for next years release. I greatly appreciate a brewer that will put an bottle on or enjoy by date; when you're getting a hoppy beer you want to know that sort of thing. (1,031 characters)

As most pilsners are, to me at least, this was a nice-looking beer. Golden color, medium-sized white head, a bit of lace.

Floral hops aroma. A lot of sweet malt.

The taste had more of a malt character, sweet and sugary. The hops were still there, but in a more secondary position.

More sweet than crisp, but still a nice mouthfeel. I would drink more of these. (363 characters)

12 ounce bottle with best before dating (11/14/12) purchased just the other day from DeCicco's in Ardsley, NY.

Pours very light and very clear. Near white head, shows moderate retention, before going to a thicker film and leaving just some quickly departing bits of lacing.

Sniff of some light sweet malts.

Light and easy drinking, hints of rye and lime. Dangerously sessionable. Clean and straight forward. Decent pilsner. (426 characters)

Look - Overly cloudy for a pilsner.
Smell - Slight fruit aroma on the nose of which I have NEVER smelt (extremely good and unique)
Taste - Although the presence of pilsner is obvious, the addition of a pear-like essence tops this (in my opinion) as one of the BEST American style pilsners on the market! Beyond the achievement of Dogfish Head Brewing's Piercing Pils by far for pear addition.
Feel - As great as, if not better than, the taste.
Overall - Exquisitely crafted pilsner which both refreshes and satisfies the pallet! (528 characters)

Pale straw, clear with visible rising carbonation bubbles. Head, large at first, fades rather quickly. Aroma is zesty, bright and crisp. Clean cracker malt with lemon. Taste matches with lemon pepper and fresh grainy malt. A well done pils that I'm sure I'll return to again and again. (285 characters)
