12oz bottle purchased at Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, NY.
Pours a very dark and opaque brown, basically black, with a thick ring of frothy mocha head and strands of spider web lacing on the pint glass.
Smell is floral and grassy hops, roasted malt, smokey ashtray, port, hint of molasses, cookie crumble, and baker's chocolate.
Taste is dark chocolate, black coffee, roasted malt, burnt grains, vinous port wine flavours, slightly tart and acidic, hops add spice with a mild, lingering bitterness and some char on the cough.
Medium mouthfeel is silky-smooth, chocolatey in texture, at times slick, prickly spiciness on the palate with a bone dry, chalky finish.
Bang on for the style, this is a classic American Porter that I could easily drink on a nightly basis. A well-rounded brew.

Best by 10/01/14 at 45 degrees into snifter
Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate
Head large (5.5cm), light brown, fizzy/frothy, rapidly diminishing 3 mm ring
Lacing excellent - thick layer covering inside of glass
Body dark brown/black, opaque
Flavor of bitter roasted malt, dark chocolate, and some coffee; no hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl. Ends rapidly leaving a slight bitterness behind.
Palate medium, creamy, lively carbonation
A decent porter lacking the fruity esters and hop bitterness.

On tap at Boneyard Bistro in Sherman Oaks, CA.
Pours an opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and char aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa, char, and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice balance of roast and hop aspects.
