Picked up a single for about a $1.90 pretty stellar for over 8%. Into a pub glass.
A - Pour is a pretty deep shade of brown kind of hazy in color with a solid inch of head that sticks around for a while. Love the deep mocha hue on that head.
S - Rather robust roast on this, smell is rather hoppy and a ton of brown malt to this. Very deep smelling brown ale.
T - Ah yes very herbal and hoppy which happens to mend pretty well with the brown malts. Lingers on the palate long after each sip and makes me wonder how this would be with some age, since it doesn't come off very sweet or roasty. Simple and good.
M - Medium bodied herbal hops are kind of too much.

Overall this is a dry hopped beer with a pretty harsh bitterness that after a few sips I found it kind of too much. Wish it was a bit more balanced and aged might do it some good.

It's Smuttynose day. I may not get to the others I bought today, but I'm glad I got to this one. It's s nice brown with lots going on.

It is a deep brown in the glass, with plenty of head. Nice and foamy. The aroma is sweet. The taste similarly is sweet and robust. The malt taste is roasty and also sticks with you. This is an exceptional brown. Highly recommended.

a. brown in color - clear around the edge with a cylinder of dark brown that cannot be seen through in the middle. Tan head of 1 finger lasts throughout the beer at 1/4 inch.

s. Yeast, nuts and earthy tones.

t. Wow - this almost has too much going on. Yeast or bread in the front, nutty in the middle and hoppy bitter in the finish that lingers.

m. A bit gritty.

o. This beer is good, but not quite outstanding. Too much going on and the lingering bitter taste moves it out of the outstanding range. That being said, phase 1 (yeast) and phase 2 (nuttiness) are very, very good. I would revisit this beer with some pretzels present to buffer the bitter.

Brown and opaque, thin frothy head of light brown foam recedes to a small cap. Low aroma of toasty malt and citrus hops.

Flavors of roasted malt, followed by restrained pine and tangerine. Roast bitters linger, with more strength than the hops.

Even mouthfeel, moderate fullness.
