Best by 6/13/14.Pours into a nonic a deep chesnut brown with some ruby red highlights a great looking creamy full one finger head that settles into a creamy mass.Aromas are on the lighter side with some roasted nuts, cocoa powder, and herbal hops showing thru.A great creamy feel, like a brown should be in my mind, very rich feeling.Flavors have some booze to them along with some sweetish cookie dough and molasses, the hops partially cut thru the sweetness providing earthiness and leafy/piney notes. This is a cool brown ale,the hops are big but so is the sweetness,it even gets a bit sticky after awhile.

In a bottle the beer was a very dark brown color with a thick tan head. There was a good deal of lace.

Sweet caramel aroma. Some fruit. A lot of earthy hops.

The earthy hops predominated. Caramel and toffee taste. A bit of fruit.

A nice hoppy brown ale. That sounds contradictory, but it worked very well. Would drink this anytime.

12 ounce bottle, best before( 6-18-14) dating.

Pours a nice looking rich, darker shade of almond amber, medium sized and lasting mocha head, leaving a thicker collar, tiny bubble film and fine low sheeting/spotted lacing.

Bold nose loaded with maple malts along with a whiff of piney hops.

Full throttle brown ale, rich, tasty and malted up with a healthy hop presence adding the intrigue and complexity.

Super smooth over the tongue and ends with a lingering malt/hopped up finish. Nice stuff. Go get some

Brown and opaque, thin frothy head of light brown foam recedes to a small cap. Low aroma of toasty malt and citrus hops.

Flavors of roasted malt, followed by restrained pine and tangerine. Roast bitters linger, with more strength than the hops.

Even mouthfeel, moderate fullness.

Enjoyable Durty beer, deep mahogany brown body with a big tan head forming thick...as herbaceous and hoppy as some Black IPAs. Fine speckled lacing left behind, the nose gives off a semi sweet roasted malt character with hints of herbaceous hops, citrus pith with the dark roasted malt character. Rustic brown ale heavy hops dank bitterness on the palate rush of herbaceous bitterness with a begrudging kick of alcohol on the palate in the backend I had no clue it was as high in alcohol as it is. Hop particles are floating in the bottom of my glass visually it's appealing and it must add a good bit of flavor. Textures are dark resinous, slightly stick with a healthy amount of hops and natural carbonation flowing forth so smoothly. Overall, I'm happy to be impressed by Smuttynose, recent finest kind IPAs have been slacking with this beer it's really easy to enjoy Smuttynose again.

On tap at Engine 15 in JAX

Excellent clarity; very dark brown but not opaque. This came with a durable tan head that left excellent lacing.

Strong flavored for style; perhaps a tad more bitter than optimal.

Very smooth, some heat from the alcohol. Near medium body.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Best by 06/18/14.

A: Pours a clear dark brown appearing almost black in the glass. An off white head sits on top of this brew and leaves some nice lacing as it dissipates.

S: Enticing aroma here. Chocolate malts blend with an ample dosage of hop. A bold roasted malt brings up the rear

T: Now this is a serious brown ale. Loads of roasted malts blend with a bittering hop backing. Notes of chocolate and dark fruits from the malts.

M: Medium body with a good dose of carbonation. Creamy and smooth on the mouth this one is an easy drinker considering its ABV.

Overall I'm really enjoying this beer. Satisfies my craving for hops and gives me the roastiness I like in malts. Will be getting this one again.
