- Mud season hoppy brown ale in a shaker pint.

A: Coffee brown pour appears a burgundy when back-lighted. Soft peanut shell toned head is thin, whispy, with a short attention passing to a washy covering. Weak lacing.

S: Sweetened grapefruit, and sweet chocolate roast. Hint of fruity apple and sweet apricot lie beneath.

T: Darken hearty roast backing, earthy bitterness with a background of fruitiness. Lightly burnt wheat and barley, dry citrus, chalky finish.

M: Good carbonation, light chalkiness with a medium full maltiness,.

O: Bold flavor, dry, lightly chalky with a dry woodys citrus hopping.

A: medium dark brown with mahogany clearly evident around the edges; 1 finger light brown head that receded slowly to a thin cap; very nice lacing;

S: an interesting combination of citrus, toffee, caramel, and a hint of coffee;

T: citrus is evident until mid-palate, then gets overrun by toffee, caramel, a bit of molasses, and coffee; the coffee is predominant at the end; light to moderate bitterness on the finish;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; dry, sticky finish; hides the ABV well;

O: complex aromas and flavor; very nicely done;

Delivers as advertised, a hoppy brown ale. I prefer brown ales to be less hoppy.

12 ounce bottle - Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Best By: 06/30/15.

Appearance: Pours out a very dark reddish-brown body with a finger of beige-tinted foam. Good lacing on the descent.

Smell: Durty Mud leans forward with floral, citrusy, juicy hop notes atop the toasty (and additionally lightly roasty) maltiness with its hints of caramel and stale coffee grinds.

Taste: Toasty, roasty malts with touches of coffee and cocoa powder. Modestly sweet with a low, light hint of caramel. Slightly citric, fruity hops tasting of grapefruit and tangerine rind. Also a bit floral, a bit resiny. Moderate bitterness. A dry maltiness on the finish with lingering citric qualities and bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: It does a mighty fine job at being a hopped up brown.

Pours brown, with lasting tan foam. Decent lacing. Aroma is dominated by heavy pine, very nice. Taste is initially wonderful - nice hop/malt balance, but finish is a bit dry and tart.

Had this almost dirt like flavor. I've had many hopped up Browns before and this is easily one of the worst I've had. I love hops but had almost no characteristic of a brown ale.
