Notes/Commercial Description:
Originally released as part of our Short Batch Series, our Rhye IPA arose from our desire to play with rye malt. It's built on a Finestkind IPA chassis, with the following changes:

• We tweaked the grain bill adding 30% rye malt and swapped Aromatic malt for C-60. Rye adds a spicy note while Aromatic malt adds a more subtle flavor than C-60 but increases malt aroma.

• We lowered the mash rest temperature a few degrees, giving the final beer less body and more drinkability.

• We jacked up the dry hopping to four times the level of Finest Kind for big hop aroma.

Bottle conditioned in 2013.

Served in a DC Brau tulip.

A: Poured an extremely murky orange color with a pillowy white head that lasted a good while.

S: I started to smell this from the second the cap was popped. Lots of luscious grapefruit and orange juice in here. Nice. Not much of that cracked rye yet, but if I hold my snooter down there long enough, I can make it happen.

T: Delicious. I got the rye in there now, which was more of a sensation than an actually taste (I'll get to mouthfeel in a moment). More on the orange side of the spectrum, but grapefruit on the bitter finish.

M: Pleasantly bitter, with sort of a hot, chili pepper-esque quality that was to die for. I found I could take fairly substantial sized gulps of this stuff and it didn't wreck my palate either. Maybe I'm just used to these sorts of hop bombs now.

O: $6.99 for a world-class rye beer? Gimee, gimee, gimee!!!

Slightly hazed orangey apricot colored with an orangey beige head of thick and dimpled foam that lingers very long. Big hop aroma, resiny pine and orange rind, some toffee and cinnamon.

Big hoppy flavor with a mix of floral and pine, some orange rind. Good malt balance with notes of cinnamon and toffee.

Rich and full mouthfeel, creamy, filling and satisfying. Great beer.

Good one!!! Pours a cloudy honey gold color into a pint glass. Big frothy white head and thick bands of lacing on the glass. Head retention is good.

Citrus hops aroma. Pleasant but not super strong.

Tastes good. Nice and bitter with mostly citrus hops. The rye sourness is noticible, mostly in the finish.

Mouthfeel is crisp, not too light. Alcohol is not noticeable.

Enjoyable as either an AIPA or a Rye beer.
