500 ml bottle poured quite cold into a snifter. Deep dark with a foamy caramel colored head that stayed present.
Smell is dark roast malt, coffee, prune.
Taste doesn’t come off like an RIS, it’s way closer to in Imperial Stout. The 10.1% ABV is masked well, but present.
Feel is, again, thin for an RIS, not too oily.
Overall, as a ‘Stout’, it’s good, but it doesn’t carry the hallmarks of a ‘Russian’ style Stout.

LOOK * dark dark brown - nearly black - 1 finger head from the 500ml bottle - head recedes quickly but lacing goes on
SMELL * strong hops (pine/citrus) - burnt trees - caramel - toffee - tobacco - molasses
TASTE * powerful hop bite and presence - rich caramel and tobacco and coffee rush in with some sweetness amidst bitter roasted grains - smokiness continues - dark brown sugar/molasses in there - dries out and the high ABV% kicks in as it gets a bit boozy - very tasty - well balanced - complex - some wood/barrel aged flavors as well
FEEL * decent full bodied but on the lower end - could use a bit more mouth feel
OVERALL * a very good RIS - very flavorful - took a trip to the SLC area and picked up a few from Red Rock - pretty happy with the brews so far - this one is a must try!

Black but more transparency than most in the style which reveals a red color, perfect medium head
Smells of chocolate, slight coffee, and a bit of sweetness
Taste is HEAVY, stark bitterness that shakes the spine and feels acidic to the tongue. Not much malt sweetness is there to save you from the depths of this abysmal bitterness.
Mouth feel is drunk
Overall I think i just barely started growing chest hair from drinking this, thank you red rock

Had some time at the SLC airport before my flight to PDX, so thought I'd give this a try (bottle was $9, which at SLC is a veritable steal).
The beer pours a dark brown color with pretty decent head retention and lacing. On the nose, there's some noticeable licorice/anise, burnt toast, vanilla and dark coffee. The flavor profile replicates the nose in this beer, with the licorice and burnt toast flavor dominating in the finish. There's also some noticeable caramel flavor, thought it's not very prominent. This really comes across as more of a strong brown ale/Schwartz beer, rather than a RIS. The burnt toast flavor dries out the modest sweetness in this beer pretty well. Mouthfeel is otherwise medium bodied, with a dry, roasty, burnt toast finish. Alcohol is pretty well integrated into the flavor profile, though you can tell it's up there a bit. Drinkability is OK, though I wasn't tempted to order a second beer, even if my flight wasn't about to take off without me.
Shrug. A decent enough beer, but definitely nothing special either. Pretty sure I won't need to revisit this any time soon.

Very nice dark chocolate brown-black look with a surprising 2 finger head in my Thulsa Doom chalice that never produces a head!
Rich aromas of licorice and leather. Some faint chicory. Extremely simple, but really pure.
Flavors come off strong with lots of smokiness, metallic leather. Suggestions of tobacco, some dark fruits, and vegetal earth. I would guess this was brewed with smoked malts. As it warms it grows more metallic and harder to drink.
Feel is relatively creamy, kind of smokey, dry, like a dry rub. Yeah. Smokey dryness on the finish.
Overall, nothing I feel strongly about returning to. Very smokey, but the green veggie and metallic elements get in the way. Once it sat at room temperature for a good 20 minutes it was drain pour material. A good half was wasted :-(
