Belgian Strong Pale Ale |  8.80% ABV

Notes/Commercial Description:
This strong Belgian style ale is made with hand-toasted Pilsner malt, grains of paradise, and fresh picked dandelion greens. Although dandelions are considered a nuisance weed around the world, dandelion greens are a natural toxin-remover, and show up throughout modern history in various tonics and folk remedies.

Paardebloem (Flemish for dandelion) has a hazy, deep golden color, a soft-toasted malt character and is 100% bottle conditioned. The grain bill was designed to produce a malty, light bodied beer, emphasizing the flavors of the spices and esters of the Belgian yeast strain.

Poured into a glass mug. The beer pours hazy straw with a thick, creamy white head and lots of visible carbonation. The beer has a good Pilsner malt aroma with some peach and some grassy and floral notes. I don't get many spice notes in the aroma. There's more peach in the flavor than there is in the aroma as well some peppery flavor from the grains of paradise. I also get some of that light Pilsner malt with some nice floral and grassy notes along with the oak. The body is medium with strong carbonation. The finish is slightly dry, but the carbonation helps cleans things out pretty quickly. This is a good beer. There are some good flavors in this, but it doesn't come together very well for me. I don't know if I can finish the whole bomber.

Pours a hazy golden orange color with a tight, white head that leaves chunks of lacing.

Smells of some fruity notes with some grassy notes and a bit of oak.

Tastes of sweet fruity notes along with some malt backing leading into some spice. Peach, lemon, and a bit of apple comes through at first. This leads to a bit of syrupy sweetness backing the fruitiness. Touches of grass come through next and fill in the middle before leading to a little bit of oak. Ends with a little bit of earthy spiciness. Finishes dry.

Mouthfeel is medium-full with a smooth amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is quite tasty and has a lot going on. While I appreciate the oak notes, they certainly don't detract, I feel like it would be better off without it.

A collaboration beer between Red Rock and New Belgium, a Belgian ale made with dandelion greens and grains of paradise.
Poured from a 743.6 ml bottle (?) into a wine glass.
Nice hazy golden orange with a creamy 1/2" off white head. Settles down to 1/4", leaves curtains of lacing. Looks nice.
Nice floral, grassy smell with soft lemon & orange, and some candy sugar. A little bit of herbs.
Grainy notes and honey hit me first in the taste, orange candy, bright grassiness, a little herb/spice on the finish. Some other fruit, peach or kumquat. Moderately sweet, a bit too sweet for me but not bad. Ends pretty dry.
Nice smooth texture, medium bodied, a little viscous. Ends light and clean.
The sweetness is it a little much, not the most drinkable.
Pretty tasty and unique.

750ml

Only available at the brewpub and to be consumed there.

Poured into a tulip a very nice cloudy golden orange color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice one-finger plus creamy off-white head, with lots of thick/creamy sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, with some nice yeast notes, oak, slightly spiced. Also, a very nice bready note. The taste is sweet on the lips, malty, with a very nice yeast note. Nice touch of spice (Dandelion Greens). Full/Medium body. This is a pretty complex brew, really. ABV is hidden pretty well. The finish is dry. Very drinkable, this brew is a joy to drink. I wish you could buy bottles to go. RR is doing a very fine job with their higher ABV brews, way to go RR.
