Notes/Commercial Description:
Red Rock's Elephino (el-uh-fine-oh) Double India Pale Ale is an American style IPA. Its intense citrus, floral and perfume-like, resinous and piney aroma come from the use of a copious amount of American hops. This beer is double dry-hopped on whole leaf Amarillo hops for a vivid, fresh aroma. The huge hop profile is backed up by a malty sweetness that lends a hand in this fine creation's balance.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #63 (Apr 2012):

LOOK: Bright golden; lovely lace

SMELL: Grassy, grapefruit pith, pine cone, catty, bready grain, yeast, clean esters, guava

TASTE: Citrus rind, mint, clean booze, pungent hop bitterness, aspirin, dried grass, nutty yeast, bread crust, ripe tropical fruit, piney; dry, bitter finish

Balance was not the intention here—the brewer was spot-on when they said “sensory overload.” If we had to gauge the IBUs, they would likely score past the human threshold in bitterness, but not enough to cloud out the flavor. Enjoy, hopheads! This one is for you!

This could have been a great beer... except that I don't like grapefruits. Damn the cascade hops!. It poured okay, but the head was minimal and what little there was faded in seconds. Color was a slightly hazy rich gold.. not bad at all. Aroma was slight, a little hoppy. Mouth feel not bad at all... but then came the hops. I love hops, just hate grapefruit off flavors and that pretty much ruined it for me. I think a lot of people will like this beer, especially if you are into cascade... just wasn't for me. Very hard to get past that to review the beer faithfully, so I pretty much called it even on this one. Don't want to slam it as they did'nt do anything wrong, just a difference in tastes..
