Floating Fire refers to the mythic ritual of the fiery Viking funeral, and it is intended to provide all one would need for a happy afterlife. It has rye malt for spice, smoke malt for fire, and tangy hibiscus that twist the citric hops and sparks a red hue. It's the all-in-one ale for the party of a lifetime.

Red murky coloring. Cannot see through the beer. I do not enjoy the smell whatsoever. Truthfully there isn't one however the taste was better than I imagined. Decent on the front end and slot of cinnamon on the back. The beer was much more drinkable than I thought.

Pours clear, caramel in color with 1/3 inch head. Taste is a moderate amount of smoke and piney hops, caramel, and mineral. Medium bodied, slightly bitter with moderate carbonation. Makes for an interesting ipa. Would like to have this fresh, but still a beer worth trying.

A: Pours a relatively clear dark copper in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and moderate amber colored highlights. The beer has a half finger tall foamy tan head that reduces to a large patch of very thin film covering a little more than 75% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate aromas of smoked malts, caramel malts, and slightly spicy rye. Light to moderate aromas of citrus/grapefruit pith hops.
T: Upfront there is a moderate to strong flavor of smoked malts with moderate flavors of slightly spicy rye and toasted + caramel malts with just a hint of caramel sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of citrus/grapefruit pith hops which contribute a light to moderate amount of lingering bitterness but the smoky flavors dominate through the finish.
M: Slightly heavier the medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.
O: I wish that the smoke presence was reduces a bit in this beer as it really dominates both the taste and smell - a little more balance between smoke, spicy, and citrus would have made this beer a little more enjoyable in my opinion.

A: The beer is hazy amber in color and has some hints of yellowish hues. It poured with a thin layer of off white bubbles covering the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of caramel malts are present in the nose along with some hints of rye.
T: The taste has flavors of caramel malts, smoked malts, and spicy rye. There is only a faint amount of bitterness, but the hops mostly serve to balance out the malts and prevent any sweetness. None of the hibiscus is perceptible.
M: It feels a bit shy of being medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has a nice blend of malty flavors. It's not a bad one if you want to try some smoked malts but don't want something as an intense as a raunchier.

Pretty label but the contents were disappointing. An IPA? Seriously? I've had more interesting pilsners.
Received it as a "Beer of the Month Club" so it may have been damaged in transit -- although the box was well insulated.

This now makes my 5th beer of Furthermore's offerings.
It is not their best. (Fatty Bomblatty is their best and have it often.)
I like Furthermore, in part because they had an association with American Players Theatre (a jewel 40 miles west of Madison.) And their other 3 beers also are worth repeating.
But not Floating Fire. Too hoppy for me at 102 IBU. While I think the malts are probably good in FF, I really can't taste them.
I had to eat salsa and chips to clear Floating Fire from my palate.
Personally, Furthermore should stick with their niche of subtle ales.

Pours a dark copper color big lacing head. Mellow sweet aroma. Taste is hoppy and has a nice bitterness, watery body and strange sweetness. Overall it's okay.

Others taste smoke and I taste ashtray.
Sorry, but while I love a good, strong, bitter IPA, this isn't one.
