Pours out bright gold and sits copper in the glass with a large, off-white head, fading slowly to a thin skim and a few minor lacings.

Aroma is very intriguing. There are the standard notes of an APA, citrus & grass, and a smooth and masking layer of basementy black pepper. The two pretty much cover anything else. It kind of smells like a bookstore, a good used-book store.

Flavor is akin to the aroma. Side by side pairins of light orangy citrus and black pepper. Mild spiciness is percieved but nothing to put you off. Mild hops bitterness towards the finish, but a rather lackluster malt performance.

Crisp in the mouth with moderate carbonation and light-medium body. Standard refreshing ale.

This is somewhat interesting, I supppose. For a spiced beer, of this direction, I'd say it's done quite well. I find this beer to be a rather challenging decision to make as a first run, main production item. How a young contract brewery, hopefully soon to be a brewery, can hope to survive on the inquisitive minds of consumers is beyond me. But hey, I'm all about new beer, so bring what you've got.

A: Dark red, almost amber lager-like. Decent head and lacing.

S: The pepper is apparent even on the nose, lending it a woodsy aroma that leads you to expect it to be rather malty.

T: Very immediate, almost smoky dryness from the pepper. Some hoppiness on the back end, but it's drowned out by the pepper.

M: Bland and boring.

O: Black pepper in beer is an interesting experiment, but ultimately the taste is too overwhelming for me. Thanks but no thanks, Furthermore.

Try it again? 2 - Probably not.

12oz bottle, pours brown with a foamy, ivory head that dissipates quickly. Aromas are earthy, peppery, bread crust. Tastes are bready malt, earthy, black pepper, caramel, with a sharp piny finish, while being semi-bitter and semi-dry. Overall, not too impressed with this one. I don't think black pepper belongs in beer. For what it is, it's fine, but I definitely don't need to buy more of it.
