They have the pepper done very nicely, but where are the hops mentioned in the brewery's description? Otherwise, it's just an ok beer. They missed their chance.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

More like not in stock...amiright?...I got nothin'... Anyway, this stuff pours a clear russet-amber topped by a finger of cream foam. The nose comprises buttery toffee, candied orange peel, and a faint hint of black pepper, which may or may not be due to advertising suggestion. The taste brings in more of the same, the pepper definitely coming through as a genuine thing, which subsequently leads to a mild-ish earthy bitterness through the finish (think chowing down on one of those larger peppercorns that make it through the mill). The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda drying finish. Overall, a nice enough beer, one that shows the feasibility of generous pepper use, but also one that doesn't lend itself to too many repeat samplings.

A: brilliant copper under a 1” white foam collar that produces thin sheets of lace.
S: Hop nose is moderate at best, citrus, maltiness low to moderate, light fruity esters on the nose.
T: The attack starts with bready malt, traces of caramel and then a burst of black pepper that oscillates back and forth with the malt seasoned with hop spice and citrus. Finishes dry with a little pepper pop and a slight astringency.
F: Medium light body, medium high carbonation.
O: The pepper and the malt actually are well balanced. A fairly medium beer with an interesting pepper touch.
