Notes/Commercial Description:
Tinder is a German-style Rauchbier (Smoked Beer) that kindles moderate malty sweetness and robust smokiness. Brewed with Bamberg beechwood-smoked malt, this medium-bodied lager ignites distinct campfire smoke flavors and aroma.

Aromatic, bright and balanced, Tinder is bottle conditioned and has an ABV of 6.5%. Scheduled to hit select shelves in late January, Tinder is a limited release beer, only 180bbls were brewed.

First off, I am generally not a smoked beer fan. Second, this beer was dated January of this year. So, I was shocked I enjoyed this offering. I still wouldn't make it a regular drink in my lineup, but it's a nice change of pace beer.

A: this thing is actually sort of ugly for a lager, but I am assuming the smoke has some effect. Cloudy and brownish yellow, it looks a bit like a muddied beer (though granted, I've made beers that look like this).
S: a nice sweet smokiness (I get a little sweet cherry as well, from who knows where)
T: very much like the nose in the malty lager sweetness combined with a campfire smokiness that are blended quite well together. The end actually has a nice light bitterness that cuts the malty beginning as he smokiness dies
M: quite smooth and medium bodied, which to me is nice for a lager. Decent carbonation as well.
O: mentioned above, but a nice surprise to a non-afficianado of the style

Slightly cloud pale gold beer with a frothy, airy head. The nose offers some medium-light smokiness. The flavor is likewise full of smokey phenols, though not much else--perhaps a little acidic. If you're looking for smoke, his beer has it, but it's rather one-dimensional, compared to malty examples from Schlenkerla. Highly smokey beers are rare enough that some people might find this interesting, but I don't.

750 ml bottle, bottled on 1/22/14. Pours slightly hazy golden orange with a huge fluffy white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is smokey campfire with a little sweet malt.

The flavor is sweet malt with a lot of heavy smoke. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with slightly sharp carbonation.

Overall, it's a nice smoke beer, but a little much on the sweet side.

From the corked, caged 750 ml. bottle stamped 12/17/17 I think. Part of it is rubbed off. Sampled on June 1, 2014.

The color of the pour is medium amber with a foamy cream colored head and a slight haze to it.

The aroma has a nice smoky malt character with a roasted bready feel to it too. Low hop note.

The body is low to medium with a smooth texture.

The taste brings out those roasted bready malts and a smoky chaser but not the point that you feel you are standing next to a bonfire. I tend to like my rauchbiers smoked to the max but this one is still very delightful.

On tap at Malted Barley. Pours a translucent dark amber color with an inch of head. Some lacing. The aroma is campfire, mesquite, smoked malts, and meat. The taste is smokey malts, peat, mesquite, charcoal, and that meaty flavor. Smokey, burnt cherry wood finish. Mouthfeel is a bit light for the style. It's hard to find Rauchbiers, which I love, so I jumped all over this one. Overall, its a decent smoked beer that I would have again.

Poured from a cork and cage into a shaker pint, the beer is a slightly hazed, golden coloring with a lot of carbonation action throughout the body and a tall, fluffy, big bubbled, off-white head that starts well over an inch, but slowly settles in to a low profile while you drink. Aromas of toasted grains, campfire smoke, charred wood, hints of carbon and sulfur, and a subtle toffee sweetness. Smells great. Flavors are light and smooth, with a forward note of charred wood and campfire coals, a biscuit backbone, subtle hops bitterness, and a solid toffee sweetness. Pretty damn balanced, and the increased carbonation keeps the brew crisp on your tongue. The smoky and woody characteristics make for a long lingering aftertaste, even past the slightly effervesced, clean finish. This is a great beer. It's like a camping trip in liquid form.
