This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Tinder is a German-style Rauchbier (Smoked Beer) that kindles moderate malty sweetness and robust smokiness. Brewed with Bamberg beechwood-smoked malt, this medium-bodied lager ignites distinct campfire smoke flavors and aroma.

Aromatic, bright and balanced, Tinder is bottle conditioned and has an ABV of 6.5%. Scheduled to hit select shelves in late January, Tinder is a limited release beer, only 180bbls were brewed.

First Rauchbier, but I'm no stranger to single-malt scotch. It's a pretty interesting beer. Poured into a tulip glass. An almost clear light copper color with a one finger pure white tight head that slowly dissipates leaving little lacing. Slight peat smell combined with the classic bready lager smell. Much more smoke in the taste, but its not at all overbearing. Smoke and peat dominate the taste, but the mouth feel is classic lager...dry, refreshing, perfect carbonation. Overall, I like this a lot. If I preferred lagers, this would definitely be repeated.

Very solid beer. Smoky, medium bodied, and very clean. While I like German versions better, this is a great traditional take on the style.

This my second entry into the world of rauchbiers. Its smokiness is subtle and pleasing and highlights the lager beneath the unique flavoring.

I like the whole demeanor of this beer.
It doesn't create any new paths of the Rauchbiers I've enjoyed-- all German and come to think of it, from one or two German Brauereis nevertheless given the brewing genre it is very satisfying. There's a nice smoke flavor on top of hops bitterness with an underpinning of malt. None of the flavors are cloying and I think the beer has a well balanced flavor. The smoke flavor not tends to dissipate leaving the hops bitterness to linger on the palate. I'd love to sample the lager without the smoke. It's almost like an ale rather than a lager or maybe it's the interaction of what's causing the smoked flavor. The alcohol content is not overwhelming, and after emptying a bomber bottle I'm not welded to my seat. The beer has a satisfying presentation in the glass. I like this beer and made not to score a few more bottles of this libation.

This bottle of Tinder is a little long in the tooth but it shows no signs of its age; carbonation erupts off the pour and stays energetic throughout (the ultra-spongy foam did fortunately descend to a more functional level). Though a smoke beer, its amber complexion glows like fire.

There's certainly a trace of smoky bacon in the aroma but this is apparently not the 'the whole block caught fire and my lungs are starting to suffer from smoke inhalation' kind of rauchbier. Bamberg's famous beechwood-smoked malts aren't over-emphasized but instead contribute to an underlying sweetness that profiles hints of ripe fruit and honeycomb toffee.

No matter how interesting any style of beer may be in its own right, they tend to take on different, often more intricate profiles with the addition of smoked malt. This is equally true of Helles Lagers, Märzens, and wheat beers. Of course, no one wants their mouth to feel like an ashtray or a barbecue; the best rauchbiers have layers of flavour beyond their smokiness...

There's not much campfire smoke or burnt wood in this one, nothing remotely aggressive. It's very quaffable. And Uinta has used a nice recipe as the base, though the inclusion of smoked malt has definitely added an extra dimension; there's a clear, focused beechwood flavour and the suggestions of cured meat, sausage, and bacon that are typically associated with it.

The proper approach to a rauchbier is always an open mind. That said, this is a much more approachable example than most; there's enough nutty-sweet maltiness to ease even novices into the style. Tinder provides an easy connection, one with which there's no need to take things slow. Any rauch-haters in your life? Hook them up with this!

One of my new favorite styles and highly anticipated as Unita is on my radar lately.

An almost room filling aroma of smoke and peat emanates from this hazy, yellow-orange brew. A towering, light tan head crumbles slowly and leaves a smattering of craggy lace behind. A closer sniff reveals some light fruits and caramel. Tastes fruit forward with some malt sweetness followed by a quick slap of smoke and damp wood that fades way too quickly. Some orange peel and faint spice is noticed. Lighter in body and crisp at the end with a lingering, subtle alcohol heat.

A bit more "rowsh" in this beer and we have a world class smoker, but I can say I'm not going to have any problem finishing off this 750.

huge fluffy fizzy head takes up half the pour, tons of streaming bubbles, slow fading head, lots if lacing, mostly clear golden orange color.

Nose nice smoked meat, smoked malts, mild campfire big smoke aroma but not beat you with it, little sweet malt base, mild crisp lager like and fruity note.

Taste fair sweetness, candy like, with big smoke again, smoked cheese, little campfire mild smoldering log, smooth creamy, mild lager feel, soft, mild earthy grassy spicy hop in the background, with fair bitterness, little sticky finish but dry and mild crisp, long mild Smokey finish little bitter hop.

Mouth is med bod, mild creamy, decent but lighter carb.
