Tinder is a German-style Rauchbier (Smoked Beer) that kindles moderate malty sweetness and robust smokiness. Brewed with Bamberg beechwood-smoked malt, this medium-bodied lager ignites distinct campfire smoke flavors and aroma.

Aromatic, bright and balanced, Tinder is bottle conditioned and has an ABV of 6.5%. Scheduled to hit select shelves in late January, Tinder is a limited release beer, only 180bbls were brewed.

ancient bottle from 2015, been collecting dust a long while, but a few things allow this to hold up well and still be real drinkable. the first is that smoke and a little oxidation always seem to work just fine together. secondly, its bottle conditioned really well so even seven or so years later, its dynamic in mouthfeel, with tiny excited bubbles keeping it feeling bright. for some reason i thought this was in the imperial range, but its modest on the abv, pretty traditional overall. lightly brown tinted brown color beer, opaque, fizzy, sort of strange looking in terms of color, not as dark as a lot of these are but still with some color. the nose and taste are identical, light medicinal funk behind familiar german yeast, campfire smoke, and light malty sweetness, a bread note, some char and carbon, new oak richness, and a ton of minerality, even a light salinity or tang to this somehow, but it all works real well, and while the smoke is front and center, its not overpowering and it has a ton of nuance from hotdog bun to cedar wood, and the oxidation doesnt bring this down at all. i love the light body, the high carbonation, and the way the yeast still impacts this. impressive overall specimen that survived really well through a gross cellaring error. better than any of us could have hoped for at this age. i wish smoke beers would come into vogue, love them in the fall!

This was poured into a mug with a light hazy bronzed semi-burnt orange to ruddy brown color with a one finger white to off white foamy head. Thick foamy lacing roams around the glass after the head dissipated. The smell starts off with a rich sweet to moderately smoked malts. Light meatiness enters in after a bit of warming. The taste was mainly sweet with an ample amount of smoked malt portion. Meatiness is extremely subdued. But a light crisp breadiness does show some extra flavor and ends up leading slightly into the aftertaste and on into a quick sweet moderately smokey finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a pretty good sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly light. Smooth sweet to smokiness runs along my tongue nicely. Overall, I liked this one for me, and it seemed fairly close to the true "rauchbier" style.

Poured from bottle into Tulip, nice 1 finger cream colored head, so so retention and lacing. Crystal clear amberish golden in the glass. Smells like BBQ in a glass. Initial taste is sweet malt, followed quickly by a wave of smoke, and finishes with a semi sweet low bitterness. This is an easy beer to screw up, I have had Rauchbiers that are pretty much like drinking an beer that doubled as an ashtray. This one initially is very smoke forward but calms down as time goes on (perhaps my palate is deadened to the smoke :)). Great beer, has 2 years on it and is still drinking good

Presentation: 750 ml bottle bottled 1/21/15 poured into a mug.

Look: Hazy copper with an impressive three finger tan head. Head quickly dies down but still about 1/8" remains.

Smell: Sour malt notes with hints of smoked meats.

Taste: Follows the nose, very light smoke flavor.

Feel: Thin to medium and little to no carbonation.

Overall: I wonder if this ones age affected it, but all the ones available to me were bottled on the same date. I would really like to try this one fresh and see how it compares.

True to the Bamberg style, this rauchbier is spot on. Murky light brown, with minimal head, smells like smoked meat and fireplaces. Taste is smooth, with all of the emphasis on the smoked malts. Just perfect.

How do rauchbiers age? I bought this yesterday and just noticed it was bottled on 1-22-14...

L - snifter pour. Golden orange with fizzy, not frothy head which quickly disipates. Clarity is low.

S - ham. Very salty ham. And green malt. It smells green and grassy but not pertinent to hops (which aren't detectable). I can actually smell the malt both in the smoke and behind it. It smells very light and "airy" - that is, the smoke is not dense or heavy. As it sits in the snifter it gets even thinner aroma wise.

T - mild. It tastes of the same green smoked malts, mild caramel, a touch of burnt sugar, and overall like a "light beer" or rauchbier.

F - whoa. No doubt the age did this guy good. Not flat but so creamy and gentle on the palate. It's filling in the mouth without exploding in carbobation. You can tell this guy sat in the bottle a while.

O - eh. I LOVE this style and with so few examples around I find nearly all enjoyable. However truth be told, this is not a leader of its class. But then again for a $6 bomber I'd probably buy it again. Okay, I would.

I have always had a warm spot for rauchbiers.... So, when I saw they had this at the 1st Annual Bacon & Beer Fest in Nashua Saturday (21MAY16), I tried a few samples. After the show, I was able to get a bottle, which I enjoyed yesterday (22MAY16)...

I used a Sammy perfect pint glass to sample the 750ml bottle (filled 29JAN15). It was a medium golden/bronze color and mostly clear. There was an ever-so-slight bit of haze present, and it had steady, fine carbo. The head was off-white, 1/4", somewhat frothy and slowly ebbed to leave good lacing. The aroma was lovely, with the smoke easily noted. Reminded me a lot of the offerings from Bamberg. I wonder of Uinta uses beechwood? Body was a decent medium, with a touch of prickle, though that did not lessen the feel.

Tasted some light sweetness with bready, toasty malt contributing. Also had a bit of caramel and some subtle florality. The smoke notes were what stood out, being balanced between in-your-face overpowering and hard to find. The finish was quite dry, as well. A very well-made Rauch, imo. Prosit!

750ml bottle picked up last month in Naples, FL. bottled 1/21/15

poured into a pint glass. murky orange tinted brown with generous slightly off white head which eventually subsides to a ring and faint covering. no lacing.

after initially snorting in the beer (hate that) most of what i got was a damp smokiness and a hint of ham.

taste was a little better that expected, the smokiness was not overpowering, neither was the hamminess. maybe due to age of beer?

mouth was a solid medium, with a not unpleasant finish.

overall, an interesting beer to try, but not likely my cup of tea. did prefer it to most of the smoked beers i've had though.

L - pours a dark, burnt copper orange. Glows in the evening light like a fire. Oh ho!

S - smoked ham. Bacon. Did you expect anything else?

T - Canadian bacon! Shocker! Has more flavor than your typical Rauch though. The hops come out to play, and the smoke isn't too overbearing. I typically drink rauchbiers for the smokey blast, but I am pleasant surprised that there is more substance here. In true American style! Getting some smoked Gouda and sweet jelly jam.

F - thicker and smoother than the German variety. Usually rauchbiers are light lagers with smoke, but this has more body.

O - good stuff. A great American take on a classic German style.

Enjoyed from the 850 ml bottle in a snifter. This nice rauchbier pours a lightly chill hazed deep amber with a fantastic head of off white foam that settles to a thick ring, thick sudsy layer, and excellent lacing. Nose of camp fire smoke, subtle sweet malts, and subtle citrus fruits. Flavors follow and exceed the nose with sweet biscuity smoked malts and tart fruits, muted and subtle, of pink grapefruit and lemon on the sides that fades to a slight hop flavor and ends with a dry and sweetish smoked flavor. One of the better smoked brews I have had. Good mouth feel, lightly creamy with solid carbonation making this an excellent session brew for a nice barbecue.

Cheers
