Aged in port barrels for the past six months, this Belgian Style Dark Ale developed a vinous character blended with toffee and caramel malt notes. With a distinctly Belgian nose, Port O’ Call pours a dark copper with a creamy head accenting spicy yeast with hints of clove and banana.

16oz can from HomeBrewStuff. Mahogany pour, filmy beige head with ring. Woody aroma, fruity, yeasty, grapes. Taste is earthy, prunes, yeasty, sweet with a pleasant burn. Not too heavy.

fun beer, i love port aged stuff, and i love belgian strong types, so this was one i was real keen on, been awhile since i had anything this ambitious from uinta, reminds me of the old days when the crooked line was so choice and relevant! clever name, somewhat understated beer. i get the port, and i get some oak, but the yeast is rather subtle, this is drier than i thought it might be, and the alcohol overwhelms some of the nuance, especially at temperature, fusel intensity all through this. a little lighter than cola colored in the glass with reddish light coming in, a spritzing lasting off white head that looks right for a belgian style, maybe not quite as airy as the best of them, but close, and plenty bubbly. the nose is sweet up front but then more nutty and toasted than rich and caramelized in the middle, lacking the dark candy sugar sweetness i was expecting, black cherry and dried cranberry notes from the port, old wet wood in here too, light tobacco and raisin, subtle anise spice to the yeast but this isnt all that estery to me, fuming alcohol. the flavor is similar, now cherry and plum fruitiness, a little blackberry jam, toast and even char from well layered grain in the middle, light molasses and fig, thinner feeling on the palate than i expected, but nicely carbonated for being barrel aged and this strong, that flatters this a bit. a root beer note to the finish, a flash of brown sugar, then just the wood and the booze, not super heavy in body but this stays with me awhile anyway. not quite as impeccably refined as i had hoped for, but a cool beer, cool mix of style and barrel, i wish it wasnt quite so hot, but a fun sipper nevertheless, quite original. i hope this marks a strong return of their crooked line and wasnt just a relic keg i was lucky to find...

Brought back for Uinta's 30th anniversary!

Now at 9.5% strength

Canned 4.28.23

Poured at near fridge temp into a willi glass

Pours a deep rusty copper with ruby tones in it. Clear body when held up to the light, with a 1F+ tight foamy head. 4

Aroma is subtle but with light and clear caramel candy sweetness and a heaping of sweet red grapes and wine. 4.25

Belgian yeast, some dark caramel, touch of prune/date stonefruit, and red wine and fairly clean and tasty oak. 4.25

Fairly biting and sharp carbo, but mellows out as it goes down. Very dry and dry finish, only slightly lingering grape tartness. 4

Overall I was very excited to see this come back (underage when it first came around) and my expectations were happily met. For about $4/can this is one I'll happily buy again and hopefully age a few as well. 4

Poured from a cork'n'cage bomber into a Dogfish head tulip. 2015 vintage.

L: Cloudy dark copper brown pour with thick foamy white head. Lasts forever... great lacing.

S: Dark fruit and sweets. Brown sugar and port wine. Booze and yummy.

T.F: Sweet dark fruits and caramel. Brown sugar... tangy... raisin and plum. Port wine and tannins. Some yeasty complexity/esters... surprisingly balanced. Complex and flavorful. There's definite alcohol present but doesn't drink boozy. Medium bodied and sticky on the tongue. Finish is sweet/tangy and very Belgian.

O: An outstanding port-wine forward Belgian styled brew. It's so good that I'm a little surprised it came from Uinta, and this held up really well at 5 years (properly cellared). Very enjoyable.

Bottled 11/19/15, so about 2 1/2 yrs in the bottle...large bottle caged and corked

Pour dark, dark amber, moderate khaki cap, slowly goes to a thin collar and patchy film.

Pungent rum soaked raisins on the nose. Yummy

Full flavor Belgian dark ale, more rum/raisins/dark fruit/dark malts/Belgian candi sugar goodness....super tasty...go get some

A - Dark burgundy colored pour with a very steady stream of tight carbonation, and very thick and creamy light tan foam that sits on the top.

S - Toasted caramel, plumbs, and a hefty whiff of red grape skins/red wine.

T - Port wine is definitely prevalent from start to finish, light oak tannin, red grape skin, red wine. Long lingering port wine, toffee caramel, some light sweetness on the red grapes. The alcohol is noticeable right way in the beginning but dissipates quite quickly and isn't a factor. A small amount of red grape twang sits in the back of the mouth.

M - Big medium body with a creamy texture and a wet finish that dries on the back of the tongue.

O - For a three year old bottle, this seems to be sitting in the sweet spot right now. More deserving than the current score of 3.82 at the time of this review.

1yr aged... Pours a murky brown ala the style with a tan head that fades quickly. Aroma is mild - soft malt and slight vinous notes among some yeast. Flavor has much more pronounced vinous quality, rounded well by caramel. Finish gets oaky, but not too dry. Pretty interesting combo of favorite styles of beer and wine.
