I, like many people here in the NW were under the impression that Utah was a vast wasteland of cheap flimsy beer. I have been enjoying a couple of 6-packs that a customer had sent back with his sister and my opinion is quickly changing. The ones I have tried (barring the Polygamy porter) have benn rock solid beer that has held quite true to style. This Cut Throat Pale is no exception. Very well balanced, good deep copper color. The head could have been a little better but the flavor was great and not over hopped for a pale. The judicious use of Cascade hops made for more of the floral notes instead of the citrus/grapefruit flavor. Well done pale ale.

Poured into a standard American pint glass.
A-Pours a borderline amber brown to medium amber with a thick off-white 2 finger head. The head stuck around for sometime and it left some sticky lace on the glass. The head eventually dissipated into a bubbly ring around the edges. It looks good!
S-Dominant malt character, with some citrus undertones. Not too much in the smell.
T- It's light, crisp, and flavorful for a pale ale. The caramel-toasty malt balanced the bitter hops in the aftertaste. For a lighter pale ale, it is quite balanced. There were also some light citrus notes that complemented the hops.
M-Light bodied beer with a full-bodied feel. Moderate carbonated feel, crisp and clean. A bit watery, but that is to be expected in Utah.
Overall, if your visiting the Rockies and you happen to be in SLC, try this ubiquitous beer. It is sold just about everywhere. It is one the best beers in the 4% ABV zone. It's a great brew for any time of the year, sessionable for summer/fall, drinkable in the spring, and warm in the winter.
