Currently, I am listening to Bach's Mass in B minor and sipping this liquid warmth out of a tulip glass. Bottled on 5/16/08.
A: The color is a rich and deep mahogany with blood red highlights when held up to the light. The head formation was decent, and it looks like this one will stick all over the glass. Nice carbonation!
S: Smells like a generously hopped barleywine...American west coast hops are evident. Notes of honey, maple, tea leaves, toasted oats, cherries, nougat and subtle hints of ripened banana.
T: Very well balanced! The big malty backbone that defines barleywine is met with a meaty thud of hop bitterness. Nothing sharp about this beer. I think this might be best described as a soft and rounded beer. Quite inoffensive, and yet delicious. Notes of honey and grapefruit coat the tongue.
M: The bitter hop character is carried to the roof of the mouth by the pressing carbonation, preventing the rounded balance of this beer from becoming too one-dimensional. Alcohol sort of numbs the tongue. Or is that the hops taking their toll?
D: I have to give this beer the highest rating for its drinkability. The brewers at Uinta have really made an excellent American barleywine without going over the top in either the hops or malt categories. In the right situation, like when you are trying to stay warm in your under-heated apartment, or trying to relax while listening to some great music, this beer is just the right sipper.

Pours out a slightly murky brown body with a thin head. Smells of caramel, dried fruit, figs, piloncillo, and PNW hops. Tastes sweet; lots of caramelized malts. Very toasty: more so than I would have imagined from the taste. Aftertaste has some roasty coffee notes. Hops are prominent and resinous/grassy. Mouthfeel is fullish with some tingly carbonation. Overall, this is a solid barleywine, but nothing to go crazy about.
