Had this on 2014-06-15 in Columbia, PA

A - Clear yellow with a 2-finger white head that lasts quite awhile. Lots of bubbles. Good lace.

S - Grass, rising bread dough and some citrus.

T - Much like the smell with bread, yeast, grass and a touch of lemon. Finishes with a nice dollop of pepper and lingering bitterness. Very dry.

M - Light body and medium-high carbonation. Pretty thin.

O - Plenty of flavor for 4% although day-to-day, I rather have a low ABV Pils like Troegs Sunshine Pils or Pilsner Urquell. I'd also take 21st Amendment Bitter American over this; keeping in mind, they all have about 10% more alcohol. Still; this is a good beer and I'll have it again.

The summer thirst quenches with a Western taste that carries the sensibility of lager but with the complexity of unmistakable American ale. Uinta reminds us that we don't have to rely on bland adjunct lagers to do this job anymore.

Sum'r leaps right out with sharp hop aromas and supporting malt sweetness. The essence of orange, lemon and grapefruit lay on the early palate with the taste of slightly under-ripened citrus peels. Its grainy-sweet, wafer-thin sweetness is modestly bready and just shy of caramel or faint honey.

Across the middle, the creamy sweetness begins to dissolve and leaves a spicy, peppery and pleasant grass property to link up with the established citrus flavors. A mild bread and powdered sugar support hangs on for dear life as the ale tries despirately to close dry and quick.

Yet, prevailing hops win out in finish, giving a spicy crispness of noble German hop spiciness along with the classic grapefruit and orange peel acidity that make American ales so irresistible. Outlasting its fast-fleeting malt dryness, the beer closes with an aftertaste of lemongrass and lemon pepper.

One thing's for sure- Uinta has done a fine job of capturing the taste of summer and the sun in a bottle.

12 ounce can - $1.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Best Before: 07/28/2014

Appearance: Glugs from the can a lightly hazy, pale straw-hued body with a half-inch of white froth. Modest lacing.

Smell: A tad doughy, subtly grainy malts with a sliver of implied sweetness on the taste. Obliging citrus mixture from the hops, also subdued hints of leaf and spice.

Taste: Doughy, scantly grainy pale malts with a small pinch of table sugar. Pop of fruitiness, with a nice zesty, citrusy hop quality hinting of lime in addition to the typical lemon. Meager bit of spice. Lightly bitter. Clean, drying, crisp finish with just a bit of lingering citrus fruitiness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Just a bit above medium carbonation.

Overall: A solid, refreshing ale available in a can that delivers a fair amount of flavor in contrast to its low alcohol.

A: Pours a very lightly hazy pale yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation and some faint straw yellow highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense foamy off-white head that reduces to a pillowy thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and an even thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light aromas of pale malts and grains with some hints of grassy and herbal hops.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of pale and grainy malts with minimal amounts of sweetness. There is a slightly stronger flavor of herbal and grassy hops that impart a light amount of bitterness which lingers slightly.

M: Light bodied with a just shy of moderate amount of carbonation. Refreshing.

O: Easy to drink, sessionable, and refreshing... A very enjoyable beer for a hot summer afternoon/evening.
