Trader Session IPA pours to a golden/amber hue with a small head of foam. The beer is fragrant, with scents of floral and citrus. Based on appearance alone, it seems like an agreeable IPA and one that keeps its assertiveness in check.

Tasting this beer, it looks like the first impression was accurate. It has a milder flavor than your typical, hoppy IPA, but is still every much the session IPA it claims to be. Flavors of citrus, mostly grapefruit, are dominant. But the malty component holds its own, imparting a bread/biscuit taste. The beer leans in a bitter direction, but it is actually rather mild for a beer of this style.

Uinta beers are known for their lower alcohol content and Trader Session IPA certainly follows in these footsteps. It is far less alcoholic than the average IPA and the body is lighter and less bitter. I like that this beer doesn’t reach the level of wateriness, but I also admit that I would like it better if it had a little more body. Still, it’s a good product for what it is and it’s certainly worthy of a try.

This is a crystal clear pale copper colored beer with a nice airy, frothy head that's a good 3/4ths inch tall. The nose gives moderately abundant citrus hop notes. The taste--actually not all that bitter. Hop flavor is fairly light as well, with grassy, citrus hints. Malt, naturally, is very light. This beer is on the low-end of hoppiness as far as session IPAs go, but it is fairly drinkable.

Poured from a 12 oz brown bottle into a Shaker pint glass. No evident freshness dating. Received in beer-of-the-month club from Tami.

A: Slightly hazy amber with 1-2 finger nearly white, frothy hed with good retention and sheets of lacing down the glass.

S: Dank hops and medium-dark crystal malts, some nutty, woody aromas but not a lot there.

T: The flavor is not an IPA style flavor -- this fits more into the session APA or session amber ale category. The flavor is balanced, but I would say more malt-dominated with medium-dark crystal maltiness and a light orange and grapefruit citrus hoppiness. A little bit of fruity yeast esters. All in all, not bad but not really an IPA in any form.

M: Light-medium body which is amazing given the 4% ABV with light-medium carbonation and pretty dry finish.

O: Not a beer I would seek out but not bad. More fits the session ale (APA or amber, probably more session English IPA or amber IMO) category.

A: Pours a orange-amber color with a fingers worth of head that fades down to a spotty cap that leaves decent lacing

S: Some fruity hops along with an almost overwhelming maltiness. Quite balanced but definitely not going to hop route

T: Starts off with a balance between the fruity hops and lightly sweet maltiness. Goes into a bit of graininess and very light bitterness. Finishes with a bit of both

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: Maybe even a bit too malty for a session IPA, this beer is definitely malt forward with a bit of hoppiness. Very easy to drink but a bit on the malty side, it definitely gets a bit cloying after a while. Worth a 6-pack if you're going to session a few, but probably not worth a 12-pack. I'd easily choose Hop Nosh over this

A: Pours a clear amber in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and some faint golden yellow highlights. The beer has a three finger tall foamy sudsy off-white head that slowly reduces to a mottled thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of hops - pine/resin, floral, and citrus/orange. Light aromas of grainy malts with a hint of caramel sweetness.

T: Upfront there is a light flavor of grainy malts with a light amount of caramel sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of pine/resin, floral, and citrus/orange hops (in descending order of strength) which imparts a light to moderate amount of bitterness which fades rather quickly.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of dryness in the finish. Slightly thin/watery.

O: A decent session IPA but not nearly as exciting as some of the others produced more recently (Stone Go To, Founders All Day, etc.). Nice flavors and aromas but a little underwhelming in the mouthfeel.

Pours a light gold color with a white head. The smell is pungent and hoppy, malt sweetness also factoring in. In the taste, toffee like malts and some earthy, bitter hops. Has the weakness of a NA beer with a bit of hops. Sessionable, but so is water if that's your prerogative . Tastes like a watered down ipa also sporting a watery body. There are some citrus notes and soft grain, but honestly thin and watery. Why bother.
