Detour blazes the trail for fresh and bold Double IPAs. Four varieties of hops combine to step up the flavor profile. A hoppy adventure that finishes dry. Big in alcohol and character.

12oz bottle

A) Pours with a finger thick head, then settles to a thin lacing at the edge of the glass.
Bronze in color. Transparent body.
S) Bold citrus with subtle peach and pine.
T) Orange, subtle grapefruit. Complementing buttery, caramel malts. Mellow linger hop bite in the finish.
M) Medium body. Fairly smooth. A bit syrupy.
O) A decent IPA. I'd drink another.

This DIPA poured a deep amber color with slight hints of orange. The beer is extremely clear. No cloudiness whatsoever. Thin white head. Smells a little boozy. Slight hints of tropical fruits. The taste was about the same. Nothing amazing in my opinion. The taste was a little boozy just like the smell. Slight tastes of papaya, mango. Nice little punch of bitterness at the end. Overall this is an OK DIPA. Nothing I would buy again. I am a hop head, but I look for nice piney, refreshing hop presence with nice bitterness. Unfortunately, this DIPA did not deliver for me. Some people might love it, but certainly not for me.

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Best before July 5th 2014.

Deep reddish copper amber color for the body, and nearly crystal clear. Very good clarity, with a slight tan and thick two finger tall head, with a nice light faint tan brown to vanilla cream color. Lots of nice but not overly excessive rising slow carbonation in the middle.

Real wonderful nose, deep juice tropical notes of papaya, and lots of thick orange and tangerine sensing flavors. Hints slightly in some faint maple syrup sweetness too with the malt backbone but not overly, and a little bit of biscuity sense. Quite impressive.

Good bodied and thick, if hinting at hop syrup with sweet and bitter lingering pine. Palate fills quickly with fruit and tropic sweetness and is blown away with earth and pine finish. Bit of a battle going on here, but lots of oily and almost treacle sweetness. Feels almost whole cone big, and giant hop forward without a lot of boozy character.

Overall just a big hop bursting controlled blast and fun and good to drink. Nice one.
