Had no idea this was bourbon barrel aged. Regardless I got a a 10oz pour for 5 bucks at the Bermuda.
A - Pours a dark mahogany brown, almost black with some ruby hues at the base. A solid 1/2 inch of mocha head greets me.
S - Not getting much bourbon mostly strong citrus pine, vanilla bean, molasses, and some chocolate malt. Sweet/bitter it's unlike any Barleywine I have had before.
T - Not very boozy which is nice. Has a nice vanilla/caramel tone to it which I assume from the barrel. Under the sweetness a nice wave of both citrus and piney hops keeps the palate guessing as it never gets too bitter. The chocolate malts I smelled are present with some molasses flavors giving it a bitter level rounding the finish. Quite balanced.
M - Despite the high ABV it can be drank rather quickly I believe it's medium in body.
Overall I am not sure how much a bomber costs but a pour on tap was well worth it at this price. One very unique brew.

A: Brownish with a light mocha head.
S: Smells like a typical barleywine, red berries, and dark fruit as well as floral and citric hop character in the nose.
T: Taste is pretty similar, but with lots of oak. Doesn't really taste bourbony. No caramel or vanilla., very hop forward, lots of floral and piney hops. Some citrus a bit of caramel and vanilla as it warms up. Basically tastes like they took their anniversary barleywine and put in on fresh oak for a few months.
M: Full bodied and smooth enough.
O: Bourbon character is unfortunately absent for the most part. This is still a good barleywine, but it's no Sucaba, Samael's Ale or Angel's Share. Recommended if you like American-style barleywines
