750ml bottle poured into a New Belgium globe.
A: Clear dark reddish-brown. Big, foamy, creamy-colored head. Great retention, thin rings of lacing.
S: Rich sugary caramel, subdued esters of raisin and fig, slight whiff of bourbon, wood, and vanilla, and some herbal hops.
T: Rich malt tastes of caramel, molasses, and brown bread. Herbal hops take on a supporting role, and balance without being a main attraction. Raisin and fig esters provide depth. The finish is the real attraction to this beer. The subtleties of the barrel aging add layers of complexity. A pleasant woodiness, light warming vanilla, and mild bourbon flavors pave the way for deep roasted malt flavors of creamy Swiss chocolate. Very memorable.
M: Very rich, thick, and syrupy. Low carbonation. Warms with every sip.
D: Very high for the style.
Notes: One of the best barrel-aged beers I've ever had, and believe you me, I have had many. The bourbon and wood flavors are mild enough that they don't hog too much of the spotlight, and they shouldn't overwhelm even the more timid of palate. Extremely drinkable- not at all boozy and much more approachable than the abv suggests. I wish it were more readily available here. A real treat.

Served in 12oz goblet. Poured a nice, opaque mahogany-brown color with less than a half-inch of light tan head that had very good retention and pretty good lacing.
The aroma was mostly sweet malts, with a bit of a hop tang in the background. On the tongue, the beer was pretty much the same, with the addition of an odd "funk" in the middle. there a slight bitter and smoky finish.
The body was about average for the style, a little fuller than Bigfoot perhaps, and had a dry finish. Drinkability was OK, but I would probably only have 1 at a sitting. Overall, a nicely solid brew. Worth trying if you see it.
