12oz to a snifter, enjoy by 2/25 date
First thing that stands out is the compass on the bottle along with some nice bottle art. I wish more breweries were creative like this. Anyway, it pours black with a dark red/purple transparency when held up to the light and suspended yeast is visible. Aside from that, good amount of foam and great lacing
Smells of toasted hops, caramel malts, coffee, tobacco, chocolate, and a touch of alcohol. Everything comes together well yet somehow I feel it's all a bit muted. There's a lot going on here but even in a snifter it's not a very pungent aroma
Tastes pretty good, consistent with the smell. Toasty hops, black coffee, dark chocolate, and sweet caramel malts come together and deliver a pretty strong punch.
The mouth feel is thick and full bodied leaving a nice dry creamy finish. Incredibly bitter with and smooth, this is pretty easy to drink
Overall this beer reminds me why black ipas are one of my favorite styles. The only thing I don't think would improve with more freshness with this beer is the color which is close to being a solid black, but might clear up my other problems, which were visible yeast and a weak smell. Were this available to me regularly I'd get it frequently
