Toasted, chocolaty dark malts align with an astronomical amount of hops.

Dark, brown pour edged with a little tannish foam. Not a heavy head nor super hoppy smell as you'd expect with a double so I think that brings down its score a bit. The smell is a bit loamy and damp with some spicy grapefruit on top. And what a fantastic flavor (which is what matters, right?) Very different profile than others on the head, the smell, and look which may be chalked up to the hemp seeds, but I don't care. Fun beer...Will drink again and again. Then sleep and drink some more.

Pours a dark brown, color. One inch head, of an off-tan color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of slight floral hops, strong piney hops, resin, sweet malt, slight roasted malt, alcohol, caramel malt, and strong wood. Fits the style of an American Black Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of alcohol, strong wood, piney hops, resin, roasted malt, slight sweet malt, hint of yeast, and caramel malt. Overall, good appearance, strong aroma, strong body, decent blend (alcohol and wood dominate), and average mouth feel.

Huge hops with bitter chocolate and roasted malt notes. Like a thin hoppy stout. Big beer, but if there was any drawbacks I got a slight tinny flavor initially.

Bottle best by early August, poured into snifter. Dark dark color, one finger head, some lacing. I am a big fan of the black IPA style and this is a fine representation of the style, more on the roasty side than hoppy. Very solid brew, would have again.

Outstanding! Appearance is a huge foamy, thick, light tan long lasting head, with plenty of lace, and an opaque brown black color. Aroma is fresh hops with a bit of a doobie character, roast malt, Flavor's somewhat similar to nose, plus quite dry (except in finish - then a hint of sweet comes out), very bitter, some tang. Body is good though the extreme bitter coupled with alcohol warmth yields a strange tingle, while still being oddly smooth. Big beer.

A: dark brown with medium brown accents; 1 finger medium brown head that receded to a wispy cap; nice lacing;

S: deeply roasted grain with citrus and some pine behind it;

T: deeply roasted grains up front; chocolate comes in quickly; citrus is added at mid-palate; all three are still there at the finish; moderate bitterness doesn't kick in until after the swallow;

M: medium to full bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish; hides the ABV well;

O: Really nice black IPA:
