Pours a very dark brown with an inch of tan foam and there's some nice lacing.

Very hop forward smell of grapefruit but has a sweetish side to it.

A very bitter first sip of grapefruit and grass, not getting any roasted malt at all but perhaps the slight sweet note or 2 could be chocolate. Hard for me to tell.

Medium body and carbo.

Best by June 12 and I reckon it would be fine even after that. My bottle, I bought at least a month ago.

Bottom line, this is super hoppy and super tasty. The abv is hidden well too. Worthy of repurchases.

In my experience, it's much better on tap than bottled. The tap version would be a solid .5 higher, but the bottled version needs to be accounted for, too. Even when bottled, it's not bad at all, but rather just... unremarkable to me. In both versions, the 9.2% ABV is definitely something you can taste, though that's not necessarily good or bad.

Pours a dark brown/red. Smells of pine spice, roast malts and coffee. Taste is dominated by pine resin and roasted malts. Pine resin and roast malt aftertaste with a little chocolate. Very tasty but I was expecting a little more flavor diversity especially considering it is a black IPA.

Enjoy by 5/24/15.
Beautiful tan head over the clear, black liquid looks so wonderful. Great lacing on the glass too! The smell has a clean roasted barley character with a massive floral, piney hop bouquet. Taste is superior to most black ales with a chocolatey and porter like roastedness coming through the many layers of fresh hops. This beer was pleasing sip after sip! Great clean, fresh taste! Must have again!

Purchased one bottle from total wine and more. I typically like black IPA's and brew my one once in a while as a nice change in pace to traditional. Although this delivered nice malty back bone, good hoppiness, nice feel I found a weird presence of a metallic like taste. Made the spot between my cheek and ear twinge. I want to like this beer but its just OK for me. Then I realized, im drinking 20 days past best buy date. Ill blame the wife for rushing me through the bottle shop and force her to drink it and crack open a fresher beer for now. But I will definitely wish to try this one again only fresher. Will update then
