12 oz 4 pack. Pours a pitch black with a quickly dissipating beige head. Aroma is of roasted malt with a hint of grassy hops. Taste is a nice balance between the roasted caramel and chocolate malts with a good hop bitterness. Average imperial abv that is surprisingly easy to drink and finishes clean. Overall this is a very nice representation of a black IPA.

Poured from bottle to shaker at SLC International.

Deep black with just a thin trace of head on the pour. Held to the light it does have some transillumination. Lacing is quite thick for the very little head that was produced.

Overall, the nose was underwhelming. Maybe I'm missing something, but to me it was just all pine and no malt, not even any subtle overtones of the hops showed through.

The taste was a very big improvement overall. There was definitely a smoky malt flavor backing up the hops. I expected the harsh hop flavor of an IPA built of hops for hops sake, but it was nicely done. There was a the subtle hint of citrus peel in there that I like.

On the palate, it had a good body for an IPA, not at all watery. Not so much alcohol burn either.

Overall, this is a good Black IPA, but nothing earth-shattering. I would love to try it again on tap to see if it adds anything to it (I'm a sucker for beer on tap).

Poured into a Delirium snifter on 3/9/13

Best Before 04/22/13

Dark brown; the appearance is close to black with a sandy two finger head. The head dissipates slowly leaving crackly lace.

Aromas of dark roast, pine and chocolate. Hints if dank citrus. Minty overtones. The body is on the full side with softly rolling carbonation carrying a swell of roasted chocolate and bitter pine. Hints of grapefruit and lemon, but they're low in the mix. The finish is roasty and too bitter. Aside from the lingering, harsh bitterness the overall feel is smooth.

Overall this is pretty good. The bitterness subsides a bit after several minutes. I'm not blown away, but i like having Uinta in Ohio.
