I had this on tap at Federal Taphouse served chilled in a tulip allowed to gradually reach cellar temp as I sipped.
The color is deep brown bordering on black w/ thin tan ring w/ tiny beads and spots of lace collect. The smell has light pine and dark cocoa powder with gentle citrus accents and subtle coffee roastiness in the aroma. The feel is semi-bitter and roasted with moderate carbonation and smooth bitterness overall with mild sweetness and low alcohol impact.
This has a very pleasant pine flavor right off from the hops which cooperates well with the mild roastiness and subtle cocoa like element with a mild caramel body and light citrus element in the hop flavor with subtle coffee nuttiness and semi sweet finish with the hops pretty constant throughout. Overall a very quality Imperial IPA with a little black malt flavor - a great beer for it has a lot of flavor and lots of hops with a nice mild sweetness to balance and relatively low alcohol on the palate for the strength.
