Thanks to sweemzander for bringing this one out.
(A) Pours a clean, ruby color. Head is made up of smaller, tight packed bubbles. Decent retention. Surprised to see the darker color instead of the orange. Oak barrels must have done some good there.
(S) Aroma is evenly distributed between oak wood, pumpkin, spices, cinnamon, and some nuts.
(T) The pumpkin is apparent but not overwhelming and dominating the taste. Nutmeg, cinnamon, and spices help to downplay the pumpkin. The taste is semi-sweet. The malts add a bread character and the aftertaste is of spent cloves. The oak probably helped to downplay all the sweetness and added a decent earthy grounding to this flavor.
(M) It sits kind of grainy and chewy. Not off-putting, but almost what to expect from a spiced fruit beer with oak age on it.
(O) Really. Solid. Beer. I really enjoyed this as it's not the normal take on a pumpkin beer. Oak aging it really did something unique to this brew. It was pretty well balanced and just tasted quite excellent next to the spice-bag versions that some breweries put out. (Although I do tend to like the "spice bag" versions as well, not knocking them, just saying this one's different)
