Picked this up in NC, wish these guys were still in Arkansas... BBD of 03/03/13

Pours honey colored with 2 fingers of beige head. Good head retention & lacing

S: Catty & grassy, grapefruit

T: Grapefruit pith, lemons & lemon zest & a touch of grassyness up front. Some biscuitty notes as this warms. Become herbal & catty as this warms, pineyness & leafy hops in large quanititiesas well. Finishes grassy, catty, piney & grapefruitty

MF: Medium bodied, soft carbonation & great balance

I would love to try some of this fresher if possible, but fairly kick ass as it is, very quaffable

Poured from a 12 oz brown bottle into a clear glass mug. Best by 9/29/14 on label. Rec'd as a thank you from good friend Walker.

A: Hazy orange-amber with fluffy 2-finger, off-white head with good retention and huge swaths of lace.

S: The aroma in this beer is very weird -- minty and herbal with a slightly sour dankness and some honeydew melon and grapefruit rind. Malt aroma is minimal to none with a hint of 2-row malt graininess. I don't get any alcohol or noticeable yeast esters.

T: The flavor of this beer is a deflection rather than a reflection of the aroma profile -- there are hints of the minty, herbal side that comes off a little grassy-weedy but not unpleasantly so, combined with a big berry-melon coated with honey flavor that lasts throughout. There is a little tobacco-like dankness and a nice crisp light caramel maltiness with a good mix of breadiness and grain flavor. Some lime and grapefruit flavors poke through too. The heavy melon and mintiness complete the finish. I don't get any alcohol or yeast flavors. Bitterness is medium-high.

M: Fairly crisp with a medium body and medium-high carbonation.

O: Hop Nosh is a good IPA which taste like it is crafted with new hops varieties with all of the melon, berry, and grassy-herbal flavors. The flavors mesh moderately well which limits this beer's drinkability to some degree. It is a little hop-sweet in my opinion -- the honeydew melon quality is very strong and a little of it goes a long way.

Appearance: Hazy, copper color with one finger of thick, creamy head that fades to a thin cap.

Aroma: Piney, resinous hops over a nice, toasted, biscuit malt. Also some fresh hop/grassy aroma going on.

Taste: Piney hop bitterness and some grapefruit over a bready malt base. Sits a bit thick in the middle, then really bitter on the finish, slightly harsh, lots of grapefruit and pretty phenolic. Quite lingering.

The Rest: Decent, but the balance I look for in a really good IPA was a bit lacking on on this one.

For my first beer review I thought I'd start with a somewhat recent favorite of mine. This beer, although an IPA, is extremely drinkable, even for someone who claims to hate hoppy beers. Despite it's slightly bitter floral aftertaste (that any decent IPA SHOULD have) it's surprisingly smooth and refreshing, especially considering it's 7.3% alcohol content. Also with that being said, this beer is easy to have a few of without realizing how strong it is so indulge with caution.
Uinta has become one of my favorite breweries, ironically out of Utah, where you might have trouble finding this fine crafted brew in it's true form. (However of you get the 3.2 version, this suddenly becomes a great session ale :-D )
Enjoy!
