Picked up one of these in Totowa last week, having never tried this beer before and not blown away by anything that I've previously had from Uinta. That was not the case here, as this beer really surprised me and was one of the most drinkable and enjoyable American IPA's that I've ever had. Not only was it balanced, but it was tasty, had a pleasant aroma, and had a well-hidden alcohol profile to it. Add it up, and this was a beer that I plan on buying more of in the near future!

The pour to this was solid, with a frothy head, apricot hue, and a nice splattering of lacing that stayed on my glass after each sip. Lots of earthy hops in the nose, which were also present in the taste. There was some caramel malt to balance it out but this had an earthy feel to it with some tropical fruit and resin underneath it. A nice, oily mouthfeel and wet feel to the hops made this slide down easy and the back had the earthiness fade into a nice floral aftertaste that stuck around for a while. Not a lot of burn or booze to this and the carbonation was more visible than tasted, but it was indeed there.

Even though this was listed as an IPA, it felt like a Pale Ale from start to finish, Deceptively strong but also easy to quaff, this felt like a West Coast beer even though it wasn't from California. There's enough to like here and almost makes it stand above the crowd, but that's only because of how many good competitors are out there. This is worthy nevertheless and worth a try for any hophead that loves a beer that's tasty and well-balance. Easily the best offering Uinta currently on the shelf.

Had it at local restaurant in central NY. One of the best IPAs I have had. My wife thought it was ok, which is high praise from her for anything hoppy. And it was hoppy. But a pleasant fragrance and bite, which did not overpower other flavors.
Hoppy, malty, a little sweet, and balanced.
A truly enjoyable brew. If I was an IPA lover, this would have an even higher rating from me.

Uinta Brewing Company - Hop Notch IPA, poured into a DFH Spiegelau IPA glass.

Look - Pours a clear copper amber with a glorious foamy head that leaves chunky rings of lacing.

Smell - Straight dank citrus hops with a sweet caramel malt backbone. Fairly typical AIPA aroma but good nonetheless.

Taste - Juicy citrus hops that make was for blended sweet malts, then ends piney hop bitter.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium bodied and smooth. Great drinkability. Slightly warming but it is a 7.3% AIPA but it's not bad at all. Rests slightly bitter and dry.

Overall - Solid brew, doesn't necessarily stand out in the vast sea of this style but still it is a solid brew and it is respectable. I wouldn't turn one down!

Poured from the 12 oz. can into a Harpoon IPA glass

a: Clear amber with a two inch white head which shrank to surface foam and extensive lacing.

s: Pine.

t: Moderate piney hops. Pleasant, easy drinking. Surprisingly mild hop bite considering the 82 IBUs.

m: Light to moderate, quite smooth.

o: An exceptional IPA, very drinkable and refreshing. The ongoing pine nose keeps you alert to what you are drinking.

Pours burn orange with a phenomenal white head and lace. Picture perfect. The smell is just ok. A bit hoppy and sweet. The taste is like the smell, not too overpowering and hit sweet and hops at times. There is a little tounge burn out going on here. Sort of tastes like a west coast IPA with a bit of the piney hops taste. It does have a creamy light feels. Overall, it's enjoyable but I'm not going to run out and grab more.

Light amber with a huge long lasting off white head. Good amount of clumpy lacing. I am more than half done and it still has some head.
Smell was pure grain bin.
Taste is floral grapefruit rind and enough grainy malts to keep it drinkable. Some white pepper on the tip of the tongue.
Mouthfeel was a bit thin but to style. Carbonation slightly soft.
Overall an average IPA that looks awesome. Not much zap for such a high abv.
Best by date of 10-25-13. Would like to try it in the canned version to rule out bad handling, etc.
