Best Before 01/21/13

A: Pours a copper color with a fingers worth of sticky bubbly head

S: Nice and hoppy, with a solid citrus kick and a decent malt backbone. West coast all the way

T: Follows the nose. Very citrusy and refreshing, with a good malt backing and slight estery alcohol. Not too bitter for 82 IBUs

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. A bit rough

O: A nice IPA that stands firmly in the crowded room of IPAs. Nothing special, but worth a try

appearance: pretty, yellow-orange. Thick messy off white head and lacing.
smell: Definitely an IPA. Doesn't distinguish itself though pleasant enough. Piney, citrus and floral hops with a slight malty sweetness.
taste: The flavor is very similar to the nose but adds a balance and creaminess that does distinguish this from many IPA's.
overall: With all the great IPA's, hard to rise above. This one does a bit though doesn't hit elite.

This is my first review, so helpful suggestions are appreciated :)

A: It pours a copper/amber color. Three fingers (I'm pretty sure I poured it wrong) of off-white head with excellent retention. Lacing sticks all the way down the glass. By the time it's empty, there's still a finger of foam left at the bottom! Mild carbonation. Crystal clear.

S: Holy hops! Dank, grassy, piney, citrusy hops! I think I can detect a sweet aroma from the malt, but I'm not very good at sensing malt aroma yet. No idea what yeast smells like, so I can't say there.

T: The first thing I notice is a sweet, caramelly (possibly roasty or toasty - not sure what this would taste like) flavor from the (I assume) malt. Next, a warm alcohol sensation all down the throat and into my belly. Right after that (or perhaps simultaneously), a full on assault of hops! Dank, grassy, piney, and citrusy flavors. Finally, a lasting bitterness. I can still taste it ten minutes after it's gone. I can't stop smiling.

M: As mentioned above, this beer is mildly carbonated. Not too fizzy, not flat. It's just right. This is definitely my least confident area, but I believe it's light-bodied, like an IPA should be. It's not thick at all. CAUTION: Leaving this beer on the palate for longer than a few seconds could scar you for life!

O: This is one of my favorite beers to date. I had to knock a couple of points off because it's not as perfect as other IPA's I've had (from Stone), but it comes damn close. In particular, it'd be nice if there was more smell/taste from the malt/alcohol. I can only hope Uinta makes a special bomber edition at some point in the near future.

L- Slightly hazy orange amber color topped with a thin off white head. Head fades quickly and leaves some spotty lace on the glass.

S- Floral hops are most dominate, with notes of pineapple and grapefruit hops as well.

T- Citrus and pineapple hops are first followed by a caramel malt that cuts through the hop notes and provides balance. The hops never really recover from the malt to take center stage again, but they do reappear at the finish as a floral grassy final note. Finish is dry but without the lingering bitter note of hops that I've come to expect in an IPA. As this warms, a bit of alcohol heat begins to show up at the finish.

M- Medium in body and carbonation, this is pretty clean for an IPA too, with very little oily build up on the palate.

O- Decent beer, nothing I'd go out of my way for but nothing I'd turn down either. A little different than what I was expecting but nothing that really stands out either. The 7.3% ABV makes it an easy drinker though.

Thanks to my boy Broc for gifting me with a bottle of this recently. Poured into a pub glass, the brew appears a hazed color of orange with some lighter yellow around the edges. A finger of yellowish stained froth sits atop and slowly fades leaving some webby patterns of lacing effect sticking to the glass. Pretty decent retaining powers composed of rather large bubbles.

The aroma has a nice floral and fruity rind quality. A bit of herbs, grass and pine with a slight catty aspect. For being bottled 3 months ago, the brew displays a pleasant depth of hop character still lingering in the nose. More smells reveal a bit of bready grain character that is slightly toasted.

The taste has that previously described toasted grain character before the onset of hop flavoring and modest bitterness. The hops have an oily feel of resinous pine, bitter rinds/pulp and a bit of floral element. It is somewhat herbal and grassy with a flavor of grapefruit rinds and slight minty aspect across the back before a perfume-like ester of alcohol takes things to the next level.

This is a medium to fuller bodied brew for an ipa. It is overall a pretty decent brew but not something I would go out of my way for or continually purchase time after time. I am appreciative of the chance to try it and if given the opportunity to have a fresher bottle, I wouldn't hesitate.

12 oz cool little brown bottle. Bottled on 3/29/12. Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Hazy. Copper in color. two finger white-ish head. Great retention and excellent sticky lacing.

Aroma: Grapefruit, fresh cut grass. A bit of malt.

Taste: Much more flavor than the aroma would lead on. Citrusy hops. grapefruit and orange. Creamy caramel malt adds a nice backbone and texture. Bitterness comes back in the end in the form of some pine-y hops.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and creamy. Medium body and carbonation. Finish is dry and carries a nice hops bitterness. Excellent balance. Real solid IPA here fellas.

Appearance - Failrly light, somewhat hazy golden in color.

Smell - Hops, earthy, dirty.

Taste - The taste is pretty bitter, not a citrusy as i prefer. Not much alcochol presence. A good amount of malt sweetness for an IPA. Tastes earthy and hoppy, pretty straight forward. Hop bitterness lingers for a while, which I love.

Mouthfeel - Sticks to the toungue a little more than alot of IPA's ive had.

Overall this is a decent beer. Again not as citrusy as i like, but a good balance of bitterness and sweetness.

I was really excited to pick this one up, and it did not disappoint. 12oz bottle, pours a hazy golden copper, with a frothy ivory head, decent retention and lacing. Huge citrus nose, grapefruit rind, biscuity malt, pine. Tastes are fresh wet sticky resiny hop, grapefuit rind, pine, lingering oily bitterness. Mouth-feel is sticky and resiny, dry. Loved it!

12 oz. bottle. Bottled on 8/27/12.

Clear, brilliant burnt copper with golden edges. Good inch of creamy, moderately dense, light beige head. Nice lacing. Some cookie and fruit malt hide beneath big citrus, pine, and resin hops.

Herbal hop bitterness and toasted malts up front. Hop bitterness becomes citrusier and spicy. Cookie, caramel, and biscuit malt sweetness fills out the palate. Pitchy, sappy bitterness into the finish. Lingering fruity sweetness and piny, resinous hops. Medium bodied, with a creamy feel. Very nicely done. The best IPA brewed in Utah? Maybe.

A: It appears as a dull copper color, that is very hazy. Only shadows are visible through it. The head is white, and forms a soap-like rim around the outside of the glass. There is visible sediment floating in the beer (possibly hops or yeast from bottle carbonation? not sure). Very spotted lacing.

S: It has a candy-like sweetness to its scent...very malty. The hops come through as very earthy, with notable resin character.

T: It has a mellow bitterness, with a lot more hop character coming through after taking a sip rather than while drinking. The hops taste very similar to the scent, very resinous and some pine-like qualities. The malt profile is not as pronounced in the flavor, as it is in the scent.

M: The mouthfeel is very nice. It has just the right bitterness to say "hey I'm an IPA and you need to wake up" and has just the right carbonation to feel alive in the mouth.

O: Overall I thought it was a very nice IPA, but it seemed very one-dimensional. There wasn't much complexity in the hop flavors or smell. The appearance isn't all that great, even if I discount the sediment (because it is likely intentional). I would drink it again, but I wouldn't recommend it compared to the vast ocean of AIPA/IPA/IIPA's available.
