Beer #35 in my great Utah Brew Hunt.

Passed on trying this in CA, as I was sure I'd see it in UT. And, alas, here it is - and it was bottled 24 days ago.

There is a heavier amber color to this one than I would have expected for the style. Nose seems almost non-existent. Very faint tones of earthy hops. Flavor profile is quite earthy. Much more than I was hoping for, if I am going to be honest. The beer is still pretty solid though. Heavy malt base with a well managed hop influence on top of it giving it a fairly thick body. It's a good beer, but not really my cup of tea...err...beer, for an IPA.

A: A straight amber color that is tranlucent. It isn't cloudy, but not clear either. It poured out with small amount of head but left a lot of sticky lacing on the sides.

S: Definitely smell tropical fruit like pineapple. A small hint of grapefruit-like citrus. It is very sweet smelling.

T: Bitter hops, grapefruit, and tropical fruit are prominent but are balanced by some awesome malt flavors. Bitterness while it is in your mouth, but it does not linger after it goes down.

M: Medium carbonation that stays smooth in a slightly creamy body. Somehow it also feels pretty light where it is not filling, but is booming with flavor.

O: This was really good IPA. Pretty hoppy at 82 IBUs but so smooth and drinkable. I usually prefer a little bit more dry hopping for smell, but the taste is what really counts. Tastewise, I really enjoyed everything about it. The hoppiness and fruit flavors were on point, but I was truly impressed by the malts in this one. It really feels like this beer is made in small batches with the freshest ingredients. I would definitely go out of my way to get this again.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – Served an orange-amber colored brew with a one finger white head. The head has fairly good retention, eventually fading to give a nice level of lacing.

Smell – The aroma is a nice abundance of sweet citrus and some lighter tropical fruit as well as more bitter hop smells of a grapefruit and pine nature.

Taste – The taste begins with a strong bready base with some light caramel sweetness and a mild grapefruit hop bitterness. As the taste advances further the caramel is lost to lighter fruit flavors in nature. While this occurs so to does the citrus grapefruit bitterness increases. As time advances however the grapefruit hop flavor gives way to a piney hop flavor, which at the end of the taste, leaves a bitter yet fairly balanced flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly creamier side with the carbonation level being below average and light. The combination of the two overall, gave it more of a cask beer feel, which was nice for the hoppy and malty flavors of the brew.

Overall – A pretty nice IPA with a good balance between breadiness, sweetness, and hop. Well worth a try.

This IPA pours yellow/orange slightly hazy. Small head not much lacing.

Nice aroma. Orange and lemon citrus, really nice balance with biscuits, rye breadiness, pungent hop aroma. me likey.

Similar to nose, more orange zest and grapefruit, again balanced well with malts, really clean bitterness and finish.

Enjoying this IPA quite a bit...please sir may I have another

Good beer from....UTAH!

this is a very satisfying hop forward west coast style ipa.... dry with bite... and a decent malt backbone.

pours an opaque orange amber with a thin white head, leaves little lacing. the smell is solid, fresh piney hops and a little apple.

the taste follows, a slightly oily drink bites the tongue and upper palate and leaves a strong piney taste in the mouth. it is balanced with crisp apple and smooth pear.... the rich malt coats the back of the throat, citrus and maple at play.

this is an excellent ipa -- do not over look, it holds its' own with Union Jack and Torpedo and others....

Bottled on 6/19/2012

A: A medium amber with an orange hue and excellent clarity. The persistant rocky, white head settles to a thin film but never goes away.

S: Citrusy American hops dominate the aroma at a moderate level with a light alcohol note. The hops have a pleasant grassy character suggesting a decent amount of dry hopping and a light tropical fruit aroma. There is a light malt sweetness with slight caramel notes that ar revealed as it warms. There are also some very low fruit esters, just enough.

T: Hop flavors dominate being mostly citrusy, followed by grassy herbaceous then slight tropical. The strong hops flavors are supported by a moderately-strong hops bitterness and a supportive moderate malt sweetness and a slight caramel flavor. Alcohol is almost as strong as the bitterness and malt but remains soft yet strong, a little more and it would become solventy but it's kept in check.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. There is a medium amount of warmth with this beer along with a slight creaminess. Despite the substantial hop bill this doesn't have any astringency.

O: There is more hops flavor in this beer than almost any beer I've had; it would have been a thing of beauty and wonder if there had been more hops varieties than being so focused on the citrus hops. This is still a solid effort and I will look for other beers from Unita.

A - reddish hazy color. Decent carbonation with lacing.

S - Slight fruity, piney and malty

T - Earthy, grapefruit, caramel, malty but not overly bready. Hopped nicely

M- medium body and medium carbonation

D - Really enjoy this beer. The hop character with the malts really come together for me.
