I really like the deep rich black color of this lager but the head had little retention. When it did build it was a mass of fine bubbles that coalesced to a tight foam.

The nose is a dry chocolate, roasted coffee, smoke and a marshmallow like lactose-sweetness.

The flavors are tempered but rich with a dry chocolate, Graham cracker, smoky ember, caramel malt and a lactose-sweetness. There is a slight coffee roast taste but it's hidden amongst the stronger flavors.

The feel is lagerish with its ease and smoothness but when you invoke the more stout like qualities I tend to enjoy more thickness.

This is easily sessionable but has varietal and diverse flavors to make it a special beer.

The beer is dark brown and has an off-white head that didn't stick around.

It smells predominately of cocoa and bittersweet chocolate, hints of coffee and roast come through. Some clean lager smells are coming through as well.

The taste follows the smell - bitter chocolate, cookielike grain, lagering yeast (paper or cardboard)

The mouthfeel is light-medium to medium. I think it is too creamy for the style. Not enough lightness in body or effervescence to balance the malt and come across as quenching.

Overall a nice beer in an underappreciated style. Not what I would typically expect from a black lager, but very enjoyable.

Dry, black lagar with a great color. Head weak, decent lacing, nice aroma. Mouthfeel a little dry and and watery.

A: Nice black lager - very pretty, tan head, but somewhat weak. Good hop to malt balance.

T: Refreshing, mild hops well balanced with the malt. Little aftertaste. Could drink several.

A wonderful showing for this style with allot of flavor hat finishes out clean and dry. In the nose you get allot of roasted malt, charred vegetal ash, and somewhat sweeter Munich malt undertones. The roast carries through to the palate with hints of the ash working together with the maltier notes and finishing with a pleasing dryness.
