Poured from bottle (best by 06/13/14) into a tulip glass

A- pours black with one finger off white brown head, leave good lacing and a lasting cap.

S- roasted/ charred malt, semisweet chocolate that you can easily smell before you put your nose in the glass!

T/M- very light sweetness with a strong bittersweet chocolate and sharp hit of carbonation in the beginning that ends full and smooth. Yum!

O- a great sessions beer that tastes great from the first one to the last, no matter how many you have =]

Appearance - Dark mahogany beer with mocha head

Smell - dark chocolate, roasted barley

taste - roasted barley, slight coffee bean, dark chocolate

Mouthfeel - medium bodied, medium carbonation, beer goes down pretty smooth, nice roastiness towards the back end

Overall - nice version of a style that isn't readily available, easy drinking beer, good flavor for its low ABV level, worth a shot

Price Point - $1.59/12 oz single

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on January 13, 2014.

The pour is dark brown with ruby red hues but looks black away from the light. There is a long lasting off-white head on top.

The aroma really put me off. I don't know if it was an infected bottle or what but I got melted butter galore which superseded all the other dark malt characters I had hoped for. They were there but buried. Some earthy hops.

The body is medium.

The taste recovered things a bit with a more forward dark sweet malt and licorice character. The butter was not as obvious in the flavor. It ended mildly bitter and pleasant.

Baba – Black Lager (4%) - Uinta Brewing (Utah)

App: Pours as black as black can be, with a nice one and a half finger tan head that sticks around very well and leaves nice, light lacing in the glass. Almost totally opaque.

Smell: Light chocolatey and roasted malt nose. Maybe I'm crazy, but I always smell roast turkey in these darker, more roasted lagers. Maybe its just roasted proteins? Overall, nose is light and pleasant. Some hints of dark, caramelized sugars like butterscotch with just a hint of molasses. Meaty.

Taste: Dry and clean in the foretaste. Heavy malt body balanced by subtle lager yeast. Almost no hops characteristics to note, other than a light and pleasant bitterness on the back of the throat. Hints of roasted pecan and coco. Every so slightly metallic on the finish.Very sessionable. Well crafted but unremarkable.

Mouth: Pretty light bodied for the malt profile. Carb is subtle, a little softer than I expect in a lager.

Home tasting, 12oz can into Snifter. 1/11/14.
