Pours a deep, dark brown with less than a finger of fluffy beige head. The head leaves some really nice lacing behind. There are mild roasted notes in the nose. Roasted malt flavor is upfront, but it is definitely lighter than one might expect for this style. The roasted goodness definitely increases on the finish.
I would not quite call this offering hearty, but it is certainly tasty and its designation as an organic ale is a definite bonus.

Appearance: Pours with a medium to heavy bodied thickness. Creamy head which was present throughout. Heavy lacing on the sides of the glass with each drink. Looks pitch black in the glass but held to light some dark brown color appears.
Smell: Chocolate malt jumps out right away. Peanut butter and caramel tones add to the dark complexity of this brew. Barley and some roasted oak character can also be found. The aroma comes off very heavy, deep and complex.
Taste: Medium bodied roasted malt jumps out. The dark tones lighten up in the middle of the brew and come off with a toffee feeling. The finish is sweet with some chalky texture.
Mouthfeel: Much lighter then I expected after the aroma.
Overall: A nice mix of regular lager tones and dark malt. Reminds me of an easy going porter. A much more solid brew then I expected.

12 oz from Giant mix a six into a pils glass chilled.
The color is very dark like black coffee with translucent clarity and thin beige cap with very fine bead. The smell is very roasty and has some cocoa and woody scents with slight toffee odor.
The feel is very roasty and dry with subtle creamy sweet middle and moderate carbonation with low alcohol in the feel with light body in general
The taste is a nice blend of dark malt flavors with some sweetend black coffee and roasted nutty woody essence with subtle sweet note with gentle spice in the finish and mild fruity toffee tinge with perhaps a hint of raisin. The overall impression is this a great session lager and I welcome the opportunity to have it anytime.

12 fl oz. can, with best before 12/18/2013 'earth, mind, & beer' printed on the bottom of the can. My first review of a beer by Uinta Brewing Co., and my first review of a "black lager" or schwarzbier as it is listed on BeerAdvocate. Not sure what to expect; keeping an open mind.
Poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass.
A - Pours two fingers of creamy tan / khaki colored froth on top of a dark brown-red-cola colored body. Ruby hues when held to the light. Some bubbly lacing on the glass.
S - Smell is of deep dark roasted barley and malts, black coffee, and some earthiness / nuttiness.
T - Taste follows the nose: big roasty toasty malt and barley presence, iced black coffee, earth, twigs, tree nuts. Slight metallic and mineral taste in the finish. Reminds me of what a nice porter tastes like. Decent carbonation.
M - Creamy and smooth, with some roasted notes leftover on the palate, and sticky in the finish. A thin, watery feel, but it was to be expected.
Overall, an impressive, smooth, and flavorful beer for being of such a low abv. Nicely made with organic ingredients, awesome can art, and a medium-fullish body; probably not a beer I could drink very many of, despite it's low 4.00% abv. Still, a fun beer that I would drink again, and I look forward to more from Uinta Brewing Co.
