I'm usually not a fan of black lagers, but then again I was not a fan of imperial black IPAs. This brewery has won me over on both. The head was a nice malt color. The pour left a small amount of head, but definitely left lacing on my 16 oz non chilled pint glass. The taste does not overpower which is a big plus in my book. Black anything tends to have a very powerful taste which removes any chance for enjoyment. This tastes very smooth. Goes down like a nice chocolate malt. The mouth feel is sooth, and yet has nice texture. Reminds me of the mouth feel of a good British ale. It ha the same light carbonation too. The flavors are subtle but present. Rich coffee, malt, maybe a hint of hazelnut. All and all a must try.

12 oz can was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger mocha head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a pitch black color with no clarity or bubbles seen coming up through the glass.

Smell: Roasted coffee, chocolate, earthy lager yeast, and a little smoke.

Taste: Roasty and robust, mocha, lager yeast, and a little bitter smoke.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, smooth, low to medium carbonation, crisp, a little creamy, and refreshing.

Overall: Pretty solid black lager/Schwarzbier. Lots of character with that light feeling. Love it.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a medium beige head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, lager yeast and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out bready from lager yeast and a hearty roasted malt character. Then some flavors of black coffee and black chocolate come in along with some smokiness in the background. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly smoky.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, very mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.

I picked this beer up on a grocery run and as a fan of black lagers, I was looking forward to trying this beer.

It poured straight black into an English pub glass. There was very little head, which was a shame because I was expecting something like a Guiness picture but that is ok. There is some lacing but not very much, which again was another surprise.

Think of the blackest liquid you can picture in your head and this is pretty much what it looks like in a glass. Although it doesn't necessarily look appetizing, the taste definitely makes up for much of it. Strong hints of perfectly roasted malts and coffee, hardly any barley or hops. It reminds me of sipping on a cold, black coffee.

The smell isn't anything too special, smell like any other decently strong black lager would.

It goes down as easily as water and if I didn't know any better, I'd think I was drinking ice coffee. I prefer my beers to have a bit more body to it but I cannot deny how natural it slides down.

Overall, not my favorite black lager or even close to it, but not a bad choice. If you are in the mood to try something new or into organic beers, this might be the one for you.

Black color with a thick head with medium retention and leaving a wall of laces.
Aroma of milky chocolate, raw grains and roasted malts.
Flavor is less straightforward and therefore more interesting than aroma. Hops successfully emerge from its roasted, nutty and smoked malts. Notes of citrus, dark chocolate, iced coffee, charcoal and earth. Dry and bitter aftertaste with a lingering smoked and roasted characteristic.
Light body with appropriate carbonation. Perfect sweetness level.
Excellent brew among its style. More flavorful than regular Schwarzbier, but still refreshing and with good drinkability.

Poured into a sam adams glass, nice tan heas, mild lacing lasted a bit. Black in color with a burnt malt and coffee aroma. Taste had stong coffee noted with hints of spice and vanilla. Medium body mouth feel with a dry aftertaste. All in all a nice beer, may be my first organic version,
