Pours black with reddish edges and an off-white head. Aroma of cinnamon, maple, slight roast and cola. Mild flavors of cola, light roast, cocoa, bready, some hop character lies in the middle. Light in body with medium carbonation. Flavors are balanced and laid back. Better than expected actually.

Poured from short bottle to pint glass. Head is thick and rich. Color is black as night.
Odor is of many things at once. Caramel, coffee, malt and maybe even some floral.
Taste starts very well, but seems to get a little bitter/dry at the end. Malt and caramel are present. Also very bready. End takes a little away for me. Would be great without.
Mouth feel is lighter than I had hoped. Doesn't seem to hang around and not as full as I had thought it would be.
Overall not a bad beer(good in fact). Just a little downside.

12 oz. stubby poured into a tulip pint. Bottling date 1.3.12.

Look- Pours a clear deep brown with a couple fingers of dense puffy-looking toasted marshmallow head. Not quite what I'd call craggy, but close. Pretty good retention. Left thick rings of foam around the glass that devolved into lacing after a few more minutes.

Smell- Light brown sugar is dominant, sweet but not overly so. There's also plenty of medium-toasted malt, and bit of gingerbread. There's the faintest touch of flowery esters. Smells a lot lighter than it looks.

Taste- Rich black bread to start, with just a hint of sweetness and maybe a bit of vanilla and nutmeg. Finishes quickly with a light coffee flavor. Minimal aftertaste. Pleasant and well balanced. Very well done, and fairly complex for a lager.

Mouthfeel- On the thin side but still full for a lager, peppery carbonation, comes off as fairly smooth. Easy drinking, to be sure.

Overall- My first black lager/schwarzbier so I don't have much to compare it to, but it seems true to the style. I liked it quite a bit, and I'm not big on lagers. I'll keep an eye out for similar beers to try, and I'll definitely pick up a six pack of this one if I find it again.

A-Pours a clear, dark cola color with two and a half fingers of light brown head.

S-Smells of a light roasted note with with an earthy note.

T-Really dry and aspirin-like bitterness and roasted upfront and a slight roast finish.

M-Very thin and dry with moderate carbonation.

D-This one is really not my thing and I'm about to drain-pour it; did not enjoy this one after I got past the nose.

Appearance: This one is a very dark amber very much near brown. On top is an off white only about a finger thick.

Aroma: Dark fruits, notes of smokiness, roasted hop, bits of rye, slight wisps of figs. Malts are very much dark roasted and bready.

Taste: Full bodied and crisp. Rasins, dark fruits, bready malts, faint plum notes in the towards the back. Dark roasted hops are well on the floral side with a nice dryness. In the end is a smokey finish to top it off.

Notes: The smokiness and the dryness makes this one a solid beer and a little bit hearty. Cheers.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass. BAAAaaa!!!

A nice creamy and foamy off tan colored head, sits on a very dark body, has some very good clumpy retention. Body color appears to be truly nearly black, but with some red accents. Pretty solid looking brew here

Bouquet is a nice small creamy chocolate malt, some faint coffee roast. However, it's a little muted.

Taste on the palate brings a nice creamy milk stout sense. Some milky cream in the palate, but also some sort of crisp effervesence sense in the feel. Kind of playful carbonation here which matches kind of interestingly with the taste.

Overall, nothing wrong with this beer, but it doesn't really excite me, and probably not a style I have that often. But it's a pretty solid brew just not for me.

pours a deep brown to black with a nicely sized light mocha head that quickly recedes, leaving behind tons of lacing.

nutty aroma with some toasted, not exactly roasted or charred malts, and thats about all. not bad, but pretty mellow.

again, nutty, but with some slight chocolate hints and some caramel/light molasses. a slight bit of herbal/earthy hops maybe and some leftover coffee from a few days prior. pretty easy-drinking, but flavorful.

light bodied with crisp, mellow carbonation that adds to the easy drinking qualities of this beer. a touch of sweetness lingers, but not a lot.

I was expecting more of a roasty schwarzbier type flavor profile, but this leans more towards a nut brown. It actually drinks pretty well and I could see myself downing a few of these in a social setting. It's tasty, but you don't have to think about it.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Reviewed live. Expectations are not high.

A- Half a finger white head. Almost zero retention. No real lacing to talk about. Very dark brown, almost black color. Not impressive.

S- Weird smell.I definitely pick up some toasted malts, but there is a very strange almost hotdog like smell.

T- Best part of this beer so far. Very light bodied in flavor, but some roast malts kick in. Average.

M- Light bodied, but smooth. Fizzy carbonation.

O- Probably wouldn't pick up again. The negatives are too strong over the positives.

Haven't seen this before and have been big on the light-in-body, dark-in-color beers of late, so I figured I'd give it a go.

Appearance: beautiful dark cola color, abundant creamy tan head, wonderful lacing.

Smell: smells like a wet dog. I literally cannot smell anything else. Suddenly not excited to drink this beer.

Taste: not a lot of flavor, but notes of caramel malt come through. when drinking it, I still smell the wet dog, so that's a downside.

Mouthfeel: really very nice; full and creamy, excellent carbonation.

Overall: a wonderfully crafted beer that smells awful and doesn't taste like much. In no rush to try this again.

A- Poured into a mug with a creamy light tan head. About two fingers in size and good retention. Tons of lace up top as the head dies and it continues all the way down the glass.

S- A mix of dark brown sugars, roast malt, cereal grain, bread and some hops, mostly earthy and floral types.

T- Pretty much follows the nose with some dark fruits in the mix. Brown sugar, molasses, cereal, bread, earthy and floral hops, some lager yeast presence as well.

MF- Highly carbonated and slightly thin body, but it is a low alcohol lager. Fair bitters from the hops.

Solid black lager that drinks smoothly and has a pretty nice mix of flavors.

Pours a big fluffy and fizzy 1.5 finger head fades fairly slowly with lacing, dark cola brown color with ruby light sneaking through.

Nose is mostly brown malts, brown sugar, molasses, caramel, even a little bready malt, then light hops, mostly earthy with a touch grassy, and hint of cocoa.

Taste starts malty as well, plenty of brown malts, caramel, bit of chocolate, and hint of vanilla. Soft bready malts, light cinnamon like flavors, etc. hops are there but barely, a light bitterness with light earthy and hint grassy hops. Its quite drinkable and fairly crisp, with a dry finish, and a but sticky. Brown malts, light spicy hops, and hint of bitterness, lager like crispness but for the most part the lager is completely drowned out by the malts.

Mouth is med to lighter bodied, fluffy, decent carb.

Overall pretty nice, very drinkable, soft brown malts, light cocoa and vanilla even, caramel, light bitterness and hops, juicy lager, very much like a brown ale but lagered.

Thick, but modest, head. Leaves a solid ring of lace. Deep ruby-brown color where only a minimum of light passes.

Good hop smell upfront (more floral than earthy). Second smell brings out some burnt (black patent?) malt aromas. I detect some hazelnut.

Very similar to a thin porter. Good bittering hop presence and the malt is also bitter. Surprisingly short aftertaste. Thin bodied with a high level of carbonation.

A: Dark black with some slight ruby highlights and a dense tan colored head that laces the sides of the glass as it goes down.

S: Sweet roasted malt, coffee, and a slight nutty aroma.

T: Milky chocolate sweetness up front with a nice roasted malt flavor. The roasted malt carries over into the finish with a burnt coffee flavor and a slight mineral tang.

M: Light bodied with good carbonation. Smooth.

O: The flavors up front are very nice. The flavors that linger aren't as nice, but they don't ruin the beer. Just a slight bitter tang that seems out of place.
