A: Frothy 2 finger high dark peanut shell tinted head sits atop a flat black colored body Tiny golden-brass micro-beads of carbonation creep up along the glass walls. Thick spongy band lacing encircles the glass, lengthy time rate for retention with a covering that was mostly lasting.

S: Black tea, fresh roastiness, burnt flowery bitterness. Green melon flesh fruitiness lurks beneath.

T: Roasty fresh flavor with a freshly burnt bitterness of flowers and burnt caramel sweetness to balance things out .Earthy tea, dark and sweet fruit mingle about.

M: The mouthful was dry and roasty, creamy and frothy feel upon the build up and hold with a soft factor of carbonation and roasty leave off the tongue.

O: Overall dark and roasty fresh, but softly delicate in delivery. A schwarz with some roasty depth, texture and character.

Poured from a bottle into a shaker pint, the beer is a dark, mahogany coloring that is almost black, with ruby highlights under light. A light, sparse, filmy, light tan surface coating of head. Aromas of toasted grains with a hint of sweet molasses and some dark, old world fruit sweetness. Flavors are sharp initially, with a date and fig sweetness quickly overridden by a bitter and roasty coffee character. The bitter and sweet work into a balance, with a touch of sharpness at the end of the palate. The sharp feel is amplified by the light body. A roasty, darkly sweet aftertaste, with a clean, very crisp finish.

Can from Lazy Dog
Pours a deep dark brown with a smallish off white head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of burnt caramel toffee and butter with a hint of chocolate with a touch of ash and sulfur. Flavor is rich caramel and chocolate with hints of butter. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick sweet mouthfeel. Decent brew, but the buttery aspect of it turned me off a bit.

Pours a black color. 5/4 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of sweet malt, pale malt, hops, hint of roasted malt, hint of wheat, and slight pine. Fits the style of a Schwarzbier. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, pale malt, hops, hint of roasted malt, hint of wheat, and slight pine. Overall, good appearance, aroma, body, and blend.

Poured from 12oz can into a pint glass.

Appearance: very dark-brown hue with ruby highlights. Body is haze free with a strong effervescence and a finger of fizzy tan foam atop. The head isn't sticking around long, but otherwise it's a great looking beer.

Smell: nutty and caramelly malt aroma, with a little bit of roastiness around the edges. A little sweet, with virtually no detectable hop aroma. Not bad for the style.

Taste: lightly caramelly and roasty; a little bit more well-rounded than the aroma. The light sweetness and roasty character remind me a little bit of a sweet stout. I actually like this beer quite a lot.

Mouthfeel: light body but a huge carbonation and massively satisfying creaminess. Bam!

Overall: this is a tasty beer that is eminently quaffable. I could enjoy this brew all day.

The Baba Black Lager from Uinta is another solid offering. The beer pours a nearly opaque dark with slightly off-white head that is leaving a lace. The scent is malty and I get a touch of hazelnut. The taste is more of a roasty maize with a touch of peat. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall this is a good winter session brew.

Very dark brown brew with a 2 finger head of off white foam sitting atop.

Bitter roasted malt in the smell with string hints of smoke. The bitter could be some hop character as well, I suppose.

Roasted malt, bitter hops, definite flavours of smoke that compliment. There's some real harmony going on with this black lager.

It has a creamy mouthfeel.

Very good brew!

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of roasted malts, some notes of coffee. Taste is coffee, smokey, roasted malts, smooth, flavorful, and easy drinking. Feels full bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer.

A- Aggressive pour yields a 2inch light brown head on a cola brown body. Head is long lasting, leaving behind clumpy lacing.

S- Aromas of roasty/burnt chocolate, coffee.

T- A quick hit of malt roastiness, hints of cocoa. Low hop profile. The clean finish is supreme. Drinks it's 4%abv.

M- Smooth, tiny-bubbled carbonation. Full mouthfeel.

D/O- The definition of sessionable, Uinta's Baba Black Lager packs as much flavor into it's (relatively) tiny low ABV frame as possible. A solid schwarz. I (really) could drink this all day.

Picked this up at the house of 1,000 for 3 bucks.

A - Pretty black for a dark lager. Almost pitch except for a haze of clarity ruby in color at the base of the glass. Head is opaque in color.

S - Smell is mild yet has some char roast and a touch of chocolate.

T - Mighty tasty stuff I really enjoy a black lager with a light grain profile. Plenty of mild smoke and roast mix with mild chocolate taste.

M - Light in body with a great flavor.

Overall one of the better black lagers I had. In fact I believe this beer might have the most flavor I seen in a black lager with an equally lower ABV perfect for session ability. Recommended!

12oz Bottle from the Whole Foods Las Vegas NV for $2

Appearance - Brown colour with a large size fizzy beige coloured head. It's too dark to make out the amount of carbonation showing and there is some good lacing. The head lasted for around 3-4 minutes.

Smell - Malts, caramel, chocolate

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste caramel and malts. There is also a light smokiness and some chocolate and some roasted/toasted nuts. It ends with a lightly smoked slightly bitter aftertaste.

Overall – A really enjoyable beer. Light enough to session, but flavourful enough to stay interesting. Also well balanced and a nice appearance. I have yet to have a bad beer from this brewer.
