Dark brown with cherry hues, a loose, scattered light tan foam. Smells of wood, vanilla, some sweet cream - nothing like a wild of any kind... Flavor is tart, acetic, metallic, some oak, mostly tart metal here -poor showing. Medium bodied with loose, moderate carb and a dry finish. A really disappointing offering.

20 anny blend.

A firm pour produces a nice fizzy head but with most fizzy heads it falls rather quick. The color is a deep dark amber so we're about right for the "sour brown ale" that the brewer claims.

A very acidic nose with some cherries and perhaps some brown sugar.

Very acidic but in a more makes your stomach burn vs puckering sour. A lot of tart cherry impact here as well.

A reasonably easy to drink sour, nothing too big, or too fizzy. Still the level of acidity here is a bit too high. It makes it hard to drink.

I've gotta give a big thumbs down for this one. It lacks complexity and just hits you over the head with acid. There just isn't anything going on in here to make this beer something beyond an excuse to drink something sour....which I guess isn't that bad.

Uinta has never steered me wrong and I have enjoyed cherry beers over the years. This can't miss, right?
Pours a rose color. Lots of foam, immediate lacing.
Uh oh...the nose starts off like tart cherries, and then heads into bile and butyric acid territory. It's tough to get past and it reminds me of a ruined ultra-ripe cheese. I like funky yeast beers, but this is one of those that's just plain flawed. Funky and "vomit" are very, very different to me.
The flavor doesn't necessarily have that horrible character, but the cherry flavors are almost artificial tasting and they don't blend with the citric notes from the yeast. The finish has a rough bitterness that some wild beers take on, too.
I wanted to like this and I was excited when I saw it, but man...it's a dud.

This beer pours a pinkish red color, with a thick, fluffy, pikkish whie head. The head fades very slowly, leaving little lace.

This beer smells very funky. Earthy yeast and grainy funk. It is not overly pleasent. I can detect a slight tart cherry aroma as well. My original excitement is going down.

This beer is cloyingly yeasty and funky. Earthy and grainy. Behind that I get a hint of sweet and tart cherry, but it is hard to enjoy over the funk.

This beer is highly carbonated, fitting the style. It leaves a funky earthy aftertaste, with just a touch of tartness.

This beer wouldnt make a good session beer. It just dosnet taste right for the style.

Overall: I love wild ales, and I love cherries. The more sour the better. I also like funky beers, and long as there is more complexity to it than just funk. This beer didnt do the best job of balancing this. Maybe more cherry tartness would have rounded it out better.

Picked up at my local store. I knew the ratings were somewhat lackluster but curiosity got the best of me.

Appearance – Pours into a tulip with a lighter red, dark orange hue with lots of fizz and about a half finger of bright white head that dissipates almost immediately leaving very little lacing.

Smell – A rather muted aroma. There is obvious cherry aromas, though not strong and more juice like than anything. A bit of raspberry comes through as the beer warms. A very subtle tartness at the end. That’s about it.

Taste – Yikes. Holy metallic. There is a cherry punch up front but this fades to a rather metallic, tinny horrible aftertaste. This tastes like carbonated cherry juice mixed with pennies. Just the slightest of tartness.

Mouthfeel – Light bodied, too much carbonation. Finishes dry.

Overall – I will not be finishing this beer. This is not good, which is sad, because this brewery has put out some other solid offerings. No way I’m going to buy one to see how it ages.

750 ml bottle
Served into a snifter

A: Clear pale ruby/pink colored body with a small soft white head that perhaps has an undertone of pink. No retention nor lacing really at all, but that's fairly typical for the style.

S: Pale malts, wheat, faint cherry, cherry juice and some dry floral notes. It's not really anything you'd expect or anticipate for being a "wild ale" or the labeled "sour cherry ale" that the bottle states. Not bad but nothing outstanding.

T: Wheat, pale malt, bread, faint cherry flavor though quite crisp. Honestly, this is pretty bland. Their a faint tartness you'd get from something along the lines of a Berliner Weisse but this is not reminiscent of any wild ales I've had before. It doesn't have enough character. Really disappointing.

M: Extremely bubbly, high carbonation but quite dry in the finish. Essentially what you'd want for this type of beer, not much to fault it for.

For $15 this was a huge disappointment. Nothing I'd need to purchase again, even if it was offered much cheaper. In a nation full of quality American Wild Ales, this doesn't even come close to scratching the surface of a good quality one.

Appearance: Hazed dusky rose. Bright-white head that drops to a tiny cap. Glows. Minimal carbonation.

Smell: Cardboard and cough syrup. Phenolic cherry. Very mellow. Lemon, old cheddar, hay, musty basement, and straw. Corn, cherry juice and tart cherry flesh.

Taste: Mild cherry flesh. Some oak barrel. Wet cardboard, corn, and grass. Cough syrup. Medicinal and slightly phenolic. Huge barrel influence. Almost like someone dissolved a cherry warhead in an oak barrel. Some pale malts. Slightly floral. Cherry flesh. Cherry soda.

Mouthfeel: Light and carbonation. Clean, very clean.

Overall: Eh. It's decent, but you can tell it's a first wild attempt. Rough and lacks depth.

Pinkish crimson, somewhat orange when backlit. Pink head of sizzling foam, looks like cherry yougurt. After the initial flurry of bubbles and foam, the head faded away never to return. An ethereal momentary skim results from a vigorous swirl.

Smells like sour cherries, as advertised. Sour mashed grain and musty wet dishrag, mineral water.

Tart cherry taste, some heavy minerality, pretty one-dimensional but it tastes alright. Not very well integrated, some astringent metallic notes throw it off a bit. It's clean and tart with a dry finish, but also a little bland and watery in the middle.

Aside from the cherries being of the sour variety, nothing really points to American Wild Ale stylistically. Seems too young, not well developed or complex.

Poured from bottle into a tulip. Pours a lighter red color with a small head.

Not much depth, but nice aromas of tart cherries and berries with a touch of florals.

Medium bodied, but somewhat watery and lacking a mid+finish. It does have some decent flavors of tart cherries and berries, but it is lacking.

Pretty disappointing. It was on the thinner side but did have some decent flavors.

This is the 20th Anniversary version.

A: Pours a clear, dark copper with a finger of off-white head that fades into a thin ring with no lacing.

S: Tart and sour fruit notes reminiscent of lemons and cherries up front with a faint sweetness underneath. Not much going on.

T: Lemony tartness and sourness hits first with some lighter tart cherry notes. It's quite sour. When the tart and sour flavors finally fade, there is surprisingly little else going on. The finish is even a bit watery.

M: Mid-light body with medium carbonation, this beer feels crisp at first but finishes watery.

O: Not an offensive beer by any means, but just incredibly bland. There's a big sour punch like biting into a lemon and then it just fades away, leaving nothing behind.

Poured into a snifter.

3.0 A: Well hazed amber cherry color. Two and a half fingers of foamy off-white head. Retention is about average, but no lacing is left behind.

3.0 S: This is quite strange. It smells like cherry flavored Sprite. Beyond that there is oak and light tannins, lemon and lime (which contribute to the Sprite), phenolic cherry, and berries. Some light, musty funk and some balancing sweetness.

3.0 T: The taste is much like the nose. It tastes a bit like Sprite too. Lemon and lime, followed by cherry and berry. Oak, faint vanilla, and mild tannic astringency. Hints of clove. Musty basement funk with dry-rotten wood and apple orchard. It's not bad, but it's not a very good sour, which I think is what they were going for.

3.5 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. There's a bit of spritz to it, but it could be more so. Smooth though.

3.0 D: It's easy to drink, but it isn't impressive in the least.

A: This poured a clear copper with a reddish hue and a bit of off-white head.
S: It smelled like maraschino cherry and sweet bread crust, with some copper hops and honey and mango.
T: It tasted like sweet cherry and pie crust and honey, with some copper hops. It had a clean sweet and sour aftertaste.
M: It was slightly thick with lots of carbonation. Pretty light body.
D: This was not a sour cherry beer as advertised. The scent and taste were mostly sweet and not very complex. Very artificial character too, which wasn't terribly pleasant. The body was also a little weak, but at least the finish was mild enough so it could be consumed quickly and easily. Just not a very good beer.

750 ml bottle, bottled on 3/29/12. Pours a copper color, with a slight red hue. Pinkish head disappears after a quick minute. No lace to speak of.

Slight sour cherry aroma, with a bit of an earthy feel. A few other fruity notes that are restrained. Slightly funky.

Very earthy up front. Sour cherries are really an afterthought here. Not a great deal of tartness. Not very sweet at all, which makes the earthy notes even more dominant. Other faint fruity notes.

Lighter body, carbonation doesn't seem to liven this up much. Alcohol is a non-factor. Not terrible, maybe just not what I was expecting.

Tried ages ago, reviewed from notes.

Pours a rude red colour, head is disappointing, just a thin crown although a quick swill revives it. Lacing is quite decent, but not that sticky. Looks OK.

Smells quite sweet. Marshmallow and a big aroma of bubblegum on there. Toffee, with a big cherry medicine note. Fluffy and sweet but some odd notes in there as well. Yeah, a bit like kiddy medicine in a lot of ways. Will reserve judgement until I taste.

Taste is not what I expected at all, really. Sour, but not really in a satisfying, wild ale kind of way. It tastes just 'off', with big phenolic notes, cherry liqueur, some unripe strawberry and fresh fruit pudding. Fruity, mostly, not majorly sour but not sweet either - tastes a lot like underripe fruit. Could use more sweetness, or just more complexity to the tartness.

Brassy body: bold and solid really, with a nice dry finish. Very good.

Can't say I'm a big fan. I feel it's a bit lacking on some sides and the dominant flavour needs to be toned a bit more. Refreshing enough, though.

750ml bottle poured into a tulip glass. Color is an apple red with some noticable carbonation and solid head. Smell is actually pretty non existant which I was very suprised by really nothing noticeable. Taste is nice good balance of fruit and sour. Mouthfeel is clean finishes crisp with a slight tart aftertaste which I want with this style. Overall decent beer but certainly not spectacular.

Pours a clear light orange-red color, decent sized white bubbly head but fades wicked fast and leaves no lacing on the glass.

Smell is very mute, only picking up very subtle hints of cherry.

Taste is not very intense, the sour/tart notes are fairly mild with very little acid character, any funk character is also very lazy, cherry is present but isn't the star that it should be, carbonation is very active and bubbly though, because this doesn't have intense flavoring it's a bit refreshing because of the carbonation and is very easy to drink.

Reminds me more of a champagne than an American Wild Ale.

Appearance: Pours a clear ice tea color with a nice head that fades away rather quicky; not a whit of lacing

Smell: Acetic and woodsy, with apple and cherry undertones

Taste: A ton of woodsy acidity, up front, with a hint of chocolate but precious little development beyond that; the finish is extraordinarily acetic

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with low to moderate carbonation; very puckering

Overall: Sad to say, I really cannot recommend this beer; easily my least favorite sour

A: Pours a clear golden orange to garnet red in color with some very light amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a half finger tall pinkish white head that quickly reduces to a thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a slightly thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: There are light aromas of fruity pale malts and light to moderate amounts of sour cherry tartness.

T: Light amounts of earthiness with some fruity pale malts and moderate amounts of sour cherry. The beer has very little sweetness and quite a bit of tartness.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation.

O: As a fan of wild ales, I had high hopes for this beer that were not quite fulfilled - don't get me wrong this is a solid beer but I was hoping for more. I like tartness of the sour cherry in both the smell and taste.

Thanks to womencantsail for sharing this one at GRG1313’s tasting.

19th Anniversary vintage. Bottled 3/20/12.

Pours a hazy orange with a foamy orange-white head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is sour and tart with malt, berry, and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with berry flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer but fairly boring for the style.

A: The beer is slightly hazy light red in color. It poured with a thin off white head that died down and left lacing on the surface and a thin ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: There are light to moderate aromas of sour cherries in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste has sour flavors of cherries. It seems to taste more like sour cherries instead of a cherry beer that has lots of sourness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and a bit tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is relatively easy to drink and is neither too sour nor too tart.

A- pours a reddish copper hue with a thin head.

S- sour cherries, some very mild funk, subtle vinegar, vanilla, and grain.

T- sour cherries, bread, wheat, water, and some subtle citrus.

M- subtle carbonation with a sour/ tart taste that linger on the pallette for a bit.

O- this beer was sort of a let down. I am sitting here 1/2 the way through the bottle writing this review and I'm not sure if I am going to finish this. Being that this beer is a American Wild Ale I think it is a failure.

Picked this up a while ago. Immediately crushed at how bad the ratings were for this. Figured it was time to get it out of my cellar. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Poured a nice, clear super light cherry/berry juice hue with a one finger white head that faded to leave a thin white blanket and light side lacing.

S - Well, a first here. This has NO nose. I have to almost give this a Belgian Dip in order to get anything, and what I get is cherry cough syrup.

T - Well, atleast theres flavor here. Not exactly great flavor, but its something. Lots of cloy "sour" cherry notes here. Mostly just cherry syrup with some hints of sour notes. Aftertaste is far too "fake" but everything before that isnt too too bad.

M - Mouthfeel is good. Higher carbonated here keeps the syrupy taste off the tongue, however, it is a bit distracting.

O - Overall this wasnt horrible, just wasnt anything to write home about. Would I buy it again? No. It was not worth the $11.99.

750ml bottle.

Pours pinkish red with sparkling clarity and a crackling, quickly fizzling head of pink. A partial skim coat and a few dots of lacing throughout the glass.

Aromatics are mainly cherry cough syrup and a hint of cranberries.

Medium bodied with a slightly syrupy mouthfeel.

Light cherries and perhaps a trace of biscuity malt on the palate. Otherwise the beer is quite clean and barely tart.

Finishes with some lingering cherry juice and a faint tartness.

This beer falls short in so many ways. Lacking in fresh cherry essence, funk, and sourness. For almost $13.00 I'm pretty dissapointed in this one, and will probably not take a gamble on another Crooked line series bottle in the future.

750ml bottle split 3 ways into wine glasses. Thanks to BA morningthief for sharing this with me!

Appearance: Pours a hazy red orange (article I read about it online says it's "blood orange colored," which is spot on). No lacing.

Smell: Faint fruit juice smell. Weak. Some bread comes out with time.

Taste: Mild puckering sourness up front, leading to a profound blandness. Nice bready aftertaste. The sourness up front has a slight cherry fruit juice tinge to it. Middle is instructively bland; like you thought water was bland, but Birthday Suit is here to teach you otherwise.

Happily, the flavor score rises above a 2.0 as the beer does open up with time, and grows on me considerably. It's difficult to describe... a little floral and fruity, a little like wild yeast flavors. While it's very, very subtle, it's helped along by the great mouthfeel and pleasant sourness, and is quite enjoyable.

Not what you usually expect (or want) from a wild ale, but in the end it's actually very good.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Juicy and succulent, tart but not too much. High side of moderately carbonated. Great, clear vessel for the light flavors.

Overall: The well done mouthfeel carries this beer a long way. I could see being horribly disappointed with this bottle... but I think it's worth opening up your mind to what it has to offer: pleasant, subdued sourness, bready pale malt flavors, with a lot of complementary subtleties.

Hard to recommend, but easy to enjoy. At the right price, this would actually be a repeat buy for me.

Poured from a 750mL bottle into a tulip glass.

A: Pours a candy apple red color with a small white head that fades quickly. It has a light amount of carbonation that creates an inviting appearance.

S: Tart and sour cherries and a touch of earthy, woodiness make up the aroma.

T: The taste is exactly like the aroma, but definitely not as sour as I was hoping or expecting.

M: It is light bodied and moderately carbonated. It has a nice, crisp, refreshing feel that makes you want to go back in for more.

O: I was pretty underwhelmed by this sour. The basic aspects were there, though muted, and it was rather one dimensional.
