This fine brew was poured into a nonic pint glass.

The appearance was deep black; traces of brown highlights; thick and foamy brown cream head; excellent retention; thick and sticky lace around the entire glass. The lace never disappeared.

Smell-black coffee; smoked barley malt; toasted coffee beans; mocha goodness; figs; prunes and raisins. I could smell wood and perhaps some earthy notes from hops. Brown bread.

Taste-pretty similar to the nose. It was a great balance of sweet chocolate up front, with a bitter aftertaste from the hops. Smoky, toasty, roasty, and malty goodness. Black roasted coffee and mocha, along with figs and raisins. Alcohol was well-hidden. Such a complex beer, some tastes are hard to describe. Fire-roasted wood taste and some burnt brown bread.

Mouthfeel-full bodied; huge and chunky, yet light and fluffy. Creamy. Carbonation on the low side of medium.

Great sipping brew, but I can see how it is easy to just down it because the alcohol is so well-hidden. Loved every sip of this fine beer. Great for a cold February evening.

In a snifter from a bomber.

A- light, foamy espresso head forms into a plateau, and lace is scattered everywhere. Pitch black body with zero clarity.

S- creamy sweet malt flavor, the trade mark Uinta floral hop aroma (smells similar to Dubhe), faint chocolate, earthy notes. Caramel.

T- dark bitter chocolate, caramel, a touch of floral hops, vanilla.

M- thin and viscous with a bitter bite and some minor booziness. The finish lingers bitterlike.

O- A good beer but I remember it being close to perfection on my first try. I guess my taste has changed or evolved.

Picked up a caged and corked 750 ml bottle from Total Wine for $11.99. Bottled on 141/04/13.

Beer poured dark brown with a near perfect tan head.

Nose has hints of mocha and whiskey.

Taste is dark chocolate, vanilla, and whiskey. The combo works well together.

Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and very smooth.

Overall this brew has some great qualities! Porters tend to be thin bodied but this one has a nice viscous feel. The whiskey barrel is subtle and well played. The vanilla and chocolate added worked out pretty well. Nice brew, glad i had the opportunity to try!

Bottled Oct. 24, 2013

A - Pours very black for a porter and has a tan two finger head with great retention/lacing. One of the best looking porters I've seen in a while.

S - Has an aroma of bittersweet chocolate powder, milk lactose, brewed coffee, roasted malts and light vanilla. There's not a huge barrel presence on the nose, but the other aromas are very enticing.

T - Bittersweet milk chocolate at first, coffee and lactic acid begin the journey. Midway it's all roasted malts and at the end there is light barrel notes along with vanilla and brown sugar.

M - Light to medium bodied with medium fizzy carbonation. It's a very smooth bodied beer with a wet finish.

O - It's a well done beer. The base beer shines through all while letting the barrel treatment come forth, but not take over completely.
