750ml bottle poured into a large snifter.
A: Deep brown on the pour, very close to black. an inch and a half of tan head retain very well. Lacing patterns the glass in thin rings and small spots.
S: Chocolate truffles and black cocoa powder, hints of smoke and jerky, slight pepper, plum and cherry esters, and a subtle toasted oak backing with an accompanying vanilla note.
T: Fudge and German chocolate cake. Cola. Undercurrent of caramel and molasses. Woody and smokey, turns a bit acrid. Black cherry and plum darkfruit. Very subtle noted of toasted oak and vanilla. Slight peppery alcohol. Finishes smokey and a touch acrid with a slight drying oak presence.
M: Medium-thick body. Very creamy and a bit airy, it seems lighter than it is. Moderate prickling carbonation helps to lift and scrub.
O: Uinta's barrel aged beers tend to take the 'less is more' approach, and this one is no exception. A very subtle incorporation of the barrel means that the wood takes on a strictly complementary role. Nice balance and restraint displayed here, and the beer benefits from it.

Bottled Oct. 24, 2013
A - Pours very black for a porter and has a tan two finger head with great retention/lacing. One of the best looking porters I've seen in a while.
S - Has an aroma of bittersweet chocolate powder, milk lactose, brewed coffee, roasted malts and light vanilla. There's not a huge barrel presence on the nose, but the other aromas are very enticing.
T - Bittersweet milk chocolate at first, coffee and lactic acid begin the journey. Midway it's all roasted malts and at the end there is light barrel notes along with vanilla and brown sugar.
M - Light to medium bodied with medium fizzy carbonation. It's a very smooth bodied beer with a wet finish.
O - It's a well done beer. The base beer shines through all while letting the barrel treatment come forth, but not take over completely.

Served on tap at Morris Tap and Grill in NJ. 1/18
Pours dark black, light tan foam. Top layer. Creamy chocolate and vanilla nose. Coffee too. Smooth creamy layered taste. Very even. Modest, if any, bitter. Subtle bourbon taste at the close. Alcohol picks up steam. Light cream. Good.
