Twenty years old, the brewery is almost legal! To celebrate, it shows us all its birthday suit. Its raw and unfiltered character leaves the palate salivating with alluring fruit, must and zesty body. Ok, ok... enough of that, here's the review:

The ale pours much like any well-built Flemish Brown Ale would- brown, but with redish tones that gives the beer a more bronze and mahogany hue. Its expected hazy character gives the beer an extra wood tone. As its creamy and spritzy off-white head abounds, it colapses back into the ale and only regenerates with a swift swirl of the glass. Its retention is light as the ale begins to favor appearances of red wine.

Its tart aromas sharply pierce the olfactory senses with its scent of sour fruits- cherries, apples, under-ripened berries and a hint of white wine vinegar makes the mouth water with the most modest of whiffs. A backbone of toast, cashew, cedar-type wood and white chocolate allows a charming malt support to emerge. With a subtle note of parmesan heading into taste, the beers pungent earthy character continues.

More wine-like than beer-like, the beer's early palate is awash with acidity- rose wine, sour cherries, crab apples, sour grapes, and even a plumb and date flavor come alive as the ale trends into earthier territories in its middle palate. Its woody tone seems to give a lift to the malt as a more caramel, toast, and buttery-nutty taste emerges. Lightly musty, the beer is more woody than sour in its finish and this highlights the sweetness beautifully; as its finish is creamier than its initial taste. Finishing musty with fragrant and spicy woods, a brine-like saltiness gives echoes of dried limes and cherries.

Medium-light in body, the beer's acidity slices right through its mild residual sweetness and gives a rise to the abundance of carbonation that pulls from the ale. Together, a champagne-like mouthfeel ensues and carries the ale to a tangy and moderately astringent finish.

The 20th Anniversary Ale celebrates that's best about beer. Its exploratory sourness is charming even if not as authentic as those Flemish ones. But its unique "American-ized" character shows that the brewery is just getting started...!

A - Pours a medium tea color with a bubbly offwhite two finger head.

S - Sour cherries, leaning towards tart dark fruits with vinegar and bready malts.

T - Pretty much mirrors the smell to me and that's not a bad thing. Just may'be a little light brown sugar sweetness to even it out.

M - Light bodied, medium carbonation with a dry finish.

O - This is a stellar sour brown. No clue why the rating is so low unless people decided to grab what they know they didn't like.
