Fresh, tasty and perfectly light, Golden Sheep is a hugely popular part of our bottled range. This golden ale offers delicious zesty flavours against a sturdy backbone of pale ale malt rounded off by a dry, refreshing finish.

A substitute in my grocery order .
Poured from a 500ml bottle.
Pours an ever so slightly hazy light amber with an inch thick off-white head. The smell is biscuity malt and light caramel and the taste follows with an added honeyed sweetness and tiniest amount of bitterness. The mouthful is alright, a little watery perhaps but nicely sparkling.
Overall, a pleasant ale . Very mellow , a bit too much for its own good. It's easy drinking , everything works but nothing stands out and it's all a little half hearted . Solid, not outstanding.

500 ml bottle, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Clear deep golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of malts, toffee and earthy hops. The flavour is first slightly citric on a dry grainy background, followed by earthy hops and a dry and slightly bitter finish.

L- Deeper gold/amber, clear, pours with 5mm white head. [ps. later, 1/2 way down the glass after 10mins the head is still mostly in place, and lacing is being formed all over the sides of the glass - impressive].
S- Distinct 'hippy' fragrance on popping the bottle. In the glass quite mild, just some hops and grains.
T- More flavour than smell. quite dry, hoppy taste builds into the finish.
F- Towards the more hoppy-dry side than rich-deep, but nicely balanced beer.
O- Very drinkable, and has more heft than a lot of other 4.5%s, making it very sessionable.

Pours a clear golden coloration with a large, creamy head and visible carbonation clinging to the glass. Smells of doughy, grainy malt and hints of grassy hops. Taste follows the nose, being dominated by doughy, grainy malt and hints of grassy, herbal hops, with a slight mineral note as well. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some grains lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a light body and medium carbonation.
A decent Golden Ale that is crisp, easy drinking and refreshing, with a good bitterness, but slightly unpleasant mineral note. Reminds me a lot of a Kölsch, actually.

Poured into pint.
Pours clear orange golden with one-finger off-white head, medium to low retention.
Smell - rubber (as usual for the brewery), skunk, other notes aren't impressive.
Taste - sweet malts, some fruitiness, skunk, paper.
Light body and soft carbonation.
Inevitably poor. One of the worst bitters I've ever drunk.

Bought this as 4 for 5 pounds along with black sheep ale and rigg welter. Black sheep ale has always been a favourite of mine and tried this a while ago but wasn't to keen. Thought I would revisit. Lovely copper colour, decent head at first but fades quickly lovely fruity smells and very carbonated. Very enjoyable, much better than I remember. Really nice ale a great contrast to black sheeps other offerings.

Appearance - Slightly cloudy amber colour with streaming CO2 thick foam lace left from a short lived head and plenty of sticky foamy lace in the glass.
Smell - Funky musty malt and sweet toffee. The aroma is pretty plain but solid enough. There is even a ting hint of dark choc.
Taste - slightly bitter nip and an oddly metallic flavour. Some light spice with a burnt sulphur element.
MF - Metallic and drying with a good enough linger.
Overall - Pretty decent not amazing but a solid enough pint that is probably on the whole more pleasing than the majority of what is served in British and Irish pubs. Curse the dominance of the macro!!
