Pretty nice stuff, a lot more character and a little more elegant than their other brews, nice roastiness and maltiness, medium bodied, light hop bitter finish, not mind blowing, but certainly nice.

L- A classic/trad dark ale look. Clear as a bell, deep rich chestnut, pours with 1Cm tan head.
S- Some toasty notes, and hints of the ABV% too.
T- The toast comes first and builds into a deep toasty-roastiness. It remains 'bright', and isn't quite as rich as I expected, with a brief but hefty final alcohol zing at the finish. I notice the ABV% more *after* swallowing - unusual.
M- Surprisingly refreshing for a dark/higher ABV% beer.
O- 'Tis a dangerous beast this one, zero out of place, eminently drinkable, and I now understand why it's name is just right. Absolutely superb and one of the best beer I've had this year/+. This'll be my 535th review, and I expect this should land somewhere in my top-20 of those, it's that good.
BB: 03/Dec/19. £2.95 from Premiere Wines London W2, a brief stroll from Paddington station. I always have my eyes open for new beers, and yet this little 'offie' is the only place and the first time I've seen this beer stocked anywhere. 500ml bottle.

Pours a deep mahogany coloration with a medium, creamy head. Smells of bready, caramel malt and dark fruits, as well as lighter notes of estery fruit/spice and herbal/grassy hops. Taste follows the nose, with a strong malty presence of lightly toasted, bready, caramel malt, toffee, coffee and dark fruits: fig, raisins, as well as lighter estery fruit and spice notes of apple skin and clove and just a hint of grassy/herbal hops and licorice. Finishes bittersweet, with a light/medium bitterness and some toffee and and estery fruit/spice notes lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
A great Strong Ale with a rich malt complexity and a very nice balance of malt, hops and estery yeast, as well as sweet and bitter notes. The estery spice adds a particularly interesting layer to this that almost brings to mind a Belgian Dubbel.

Spicy and earthy English Strong Ale with a unique dark fruity flavor. Well attenuated; not sweet as one might think. Incredible malt complexity.
