Poured into a tall clear pint glass. Clear dark maple wood color, maybe looks like soda. One and one half finger-thick tan head
Aroma consists of brown sugar, toffee, prunes, chocolate, dates, raisins, roasted malts, toast, molasses, caramel, dark fruit, and earthy hops.
Follows the aroma quite well, although the malts are definitely more noticeable on the palette. Combined with the earthy hops, it has a 'woody' body to it. Somewhat bitter aftertaste, and medium-light body feeling.

Poured into a taster glass. My wife bought the two bottle set , complete with Holy Grail.
A: A clear copper/mahogany mix with a white one-finger head that slowly recedes. Ample lacing.
S: Lots of toasty malts with caramel and cocoa.
T: Follows the nose with a suprisingly sweet malt bomb of flavor. Caramel, brown sugar, cocoa and a bit of spices on the finish.
M: Medium with medium carbonation.
O: This is a really decent followup to the regular Holy Grail Ale. A darker, richer style that only leaves a flesh wound. No need to bring out your dead. This one is alive and kickin'.

BOTTLED AS "Black Sheep Monty Python’s Holy Grail Black Knight’s Reserve"
Appearance: dark copper color. Small white head. Aroma. Hat, barley. Taste. Smooth ale, some hops. Better than I would have thought. I’ll give it a 5 (3 sir), yes 3.

“It’s just a flesh wound.” Perhaps the funniest quote from the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Fittingly, this beer says “I’m only a Dark Ale” and yet it is much more than that to us. From its epic appearance to the aroma and palate, we’re completely won over by the detonation of this malt bomb. Perhaps in need of a bit of refinement, this Black Knight is still packed with flavor and easy to knock back.

A really tasty, malt heavy ale. Beautiful rich oaky appearance. Very glad to find this, seeing as how it's difficult to import because it's a European non-migratory beer.
