Definitely "black as midnight," as advertised. The nitro tap ensured a fine, tight head, but on top of that it lasted for a solid 15 minutes, as I took a while to get to this one after it arrived. Each sip was definitely crackley-crisp and dry, but it ended with a burnt, charcoal edge that kind of clobbered some of the more delicate roasty malt notes.
Serving type: nitro-tap

Tasted on the sampler at the brewpub. I'd have to call this a "baby stout" because it has the right flavors just not enough of them. The appearance and smell are spot-on but it didn't have the potency that was needed. The drinkability suffered in part because the buildup of the appearance and smell was soo good.
Serving type: on-tap
