Thanks to thirdeye11 for sharing this bottle.
The beer pours a very dark red-brown color with a tan head. The aroma is alcohol, toffee and dark fruit. The flavor is toffee, alcohol, roasted malt and resiny hops. Low bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A pretty good Black IPA, but not the best I have tried.

Got this in a holiday 6 pack from when I visited the in-laws.
A- Dark brown with a finger's worth of tan head on top. Nice lacing. All the way opaque.
S- Smell of citrusy hops
T- Some bitterness, followed by a slight roasty note
M- Medium mouthfeel with the right amount of carbonation
D- Good drinkability, probably have a couple at a time
One of the best that I've had from this brewery. I'm looking forward to having this on tap.

A. Coffee brown in color, with a hint of gold when held to the light. Good size tan head with nice lacing.
S. Citrusy hops smell, but it take a minute to register. A very subtle aroma.
T. Roasted goodness with a slight bite at the end.
M. Excellent carbonation and easy to drink.
This beer goes down very well - it's a bit dangerous. A mild dark IPA with a beautiful color and aroma.

Thanks to iceicebaby for this bottle.
Pours with nice clarity, a black coffee brown color. Short head, decent retention, with thick drooping legs of lace.
Smells of fruity yeast and spicy piney hops. There's a muted burnt toast aroma as well.
The flavor is robust for an American Black Ale. While strong pine from the hops comes through, the flavor is full of overpowering black malts. Roasted barley seems to have been overused here... lots of ash and dry coffee beans adds a bitterness that is unwelcome.
All the ashy flavors lead into a super dry and powdery mouthfeel.
Overall I like that they tried to make a truly malty black IPA, but to be honest this recipe needs some serious tweaking.

22oz bottle, handwritten "Cobain's Ale" on a Walldorff Brewpub label. I believe it's a collaboration with Dark Horse but a different listing to the DH Cobain. Big thanks to hoppymeal for this one.
Pours really close to black when sitting in the glass but shows through deep mahogany in the light. There is a thick creamy beige head that sticks to the sides of the glass and leaves great lacing.
The aroma is a mix of roasted chocolate malts and juicy citrus hops. Definitely cocoa powder and oranges and hints of grassy floral hops as well.
The taste has an initial kick of citrus hops, a slightly bitter grapfruit and orange flavor. There are some heavily roasted chocolate malts forming the backbone which gives way to a bitter, dry finish of cocoa and hops.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation and has a very creamy feel overall.
The dark IPAs are all the rage these days and this is one of the best ones I've tasted. It's got tons of flavors that come together well into a very drinkable mixture. Thanks Derek!

Bottle. Poured into a tulip glass a dark cola like brown/black color with a fluffy, coastered tan head. Mixed aroma of dark roast, slight licorice, with some hop characteristics poking through. This beer is odd in that as an IPA the hops aren't extremely strong in the nose. Medium mouthfeel. Hmm, interesting flavor, as opposed to the nose the hops are for sure there and in true form. Nice start with some roasted cofffee flavors mixed with some sweetness and then balanced out with some hoppy pine/citrus flavors. Bitterness lingers on. For 8.3% the alcohol doesn't really show that much. Nice lace on the glass.

This beer pours a very dark, caramely brown- could be mistaken for an opaque black stout in a dimly lit room. A tiny cappuccino-white head dissipates to a tiny ring around the glass. Light lacing.
A nice, pronounced earthy hoppiness in the bouquet, with light amounts of sweet dark malt breadiness playing against the grass, pine, and mild citrus.
The taste is wonderfully balanced- not a biting hoppiness, not too sweet, very nice roast/ toast in the finish, and a graeat carbonation to carry it all. Not too chewy, but certainly not a session beer. The leave is dry, though- I am very impressed with the all-around quality of this brew- clean and well-crafted.
Awesome first experience with this brewery I'd never heard of. Thanks, Steve, for hooking up the bottle!

Reviewed on 6/27/2010. On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma of roasted, charred malt and citrus hops. Flavor of citrus and bitter hops upfront followed by a wave of roasted, smoky malt. Pretty tasty and a nice black IPA.
