A crystal clear straw-colored pils that pours with a voluminous rocky head with just a touch of hop spicy aroma on top of fresh malt. I pour some of this beer and the head rapidly rises, I let it settle and pour the last third of the bottle to form a huge rocky head. As the head falls, clumps of foam are left sticking to the sides of my mug. Malt and hops are beautifully in tune with each other in this brew. The first suggests crisp, fresh malt laced with noble spicy hops. The mouthfeel is quite smooth and the body is rather full for a pils. The hops exert themsevles towards the finish, which is solidly hoppy, but with a firm maltiness that you expect from Spaten. The bitter, spicy hops linger on the palate making for a long bitter, spicy finish. This is my second favorite German pils.
