I had this on tap at Cafe Luna in Champaign, IL. Great pour. The glass screams pilsner -- transparent amber which a fluffy, almost solid thick head. The nose is what I've come to expect from pilsners -- malty, grassy but not vegetable, a little dirty. It drinks easy and has some complexity of fruit to it. Dry, but not too dry. This is a model pilsner beer. I would have appreciated a little more hoppiness; the flavor almost dissapears on you. It's too far on the "crisp, clean, refreshing" side of the spectrum. I would drink it any time. A little overpriced at $4/pint -- but that's not Spaten's fault.
Married well with smoked salmon and spinach.
