I've seen this in the store a lot. Finally decided to give it a shot, except that it's on-tap. Here goes:

A: Not that inviting. Very cloudy amber - looks exactly like apple cider with a head. Leaves good lacing, though.

S: Lots of...banana. Really a ton of banana. Accompanied by coriander, clove and lighter spices.

T: Follows the nose, except with the addition of bready yeast. Lots of banana and coriander followed by bready yeast; it almost tastes like a Belgian beer.

F: Nice and bready. Good.

O: Good beer, but I'd rather have a Belgian wit.

A: Golden and clear with a slight haze and eeeeenormous well-retained head with bubbles out the wazoo. (3/3)
S: Solid wheat aroma with hints of metal and black pepper. (9/12)
T: Just a little bit of sweetness to balance the wheat Spice and oh my god what a smooth finish. (16/20)
M: Very bubbly and just a little dry on the finish. (5/5)
O: This beer traveled really well and I detect very little in the skunk or cardboard range. Really can't get it over how clean that finish is given the wheat power on the front. Not quite a fin du monde or weihenstephaner in my book but still solid. (8/10)

Pours with a medium, white head. Is golden in color and murky. Odor is not too strong, but has a hint of sweetness. Taste is great and sweet, but has a slight malty aftertaste.

Served in a new Bells wheat glass. Really great at bringing out the aromas.

Pours a nice orange two finger frothy white head that stays put. Typical hefe aromas of banana, cinnamon, bubblegum, maybe a hint of lemon. Taste of doughy wheat bread, banana, yeast, and not much else. Pretty vague. Decent carbonation with a light-body.

Typical German style hefe. Good but not great.

Cheers!

Exactly what a wheat beer should be. Great beer with crisp clean flavor. Complex and delicious.

Franziskaner is my go-to. What a really flavorful, stellar beer. It's like something out of the Middle Ages, and that is a good thing. I feel like a Gregorian monk when I drink this stuff.

Draught poured into a Franziskaner Weissbier glass:

Appearance: Deep bronze, almost light honey colored, with a pristine, beautiful shade of Germanic awesome. An off-white head that is less than a finger's width, quickly receding into lacey edges on the glass like a Byzantine tapestry.

Aroma: Faint, bitter sweet, slightly citrus undertones -- not overpowering. It is very inviting.

Taste: A rich wheat with a fruity aftertaste, no maltiness and ever so slightly hoppy. It lures you in with its deeply embedded, earthly goodness.

Mouthfeel: Slightly oily on the tongue, but rolls off nicely, with some biting carbonation.

Overall: I fell in love with this stuff the moment I tasted it. Friar Tuck would drown himself in this heavenly beer. It's really, really one of the finer brews out there. Get it on draught if you can.

my first real wheat beer that I paid attention to...opened my eyes to what beer can be! I love this brew...felt like the closest that beer can approach to being food.

A: Cloudy straw yellow with a white meringue-like head.
S: Peppy yeast.
T: Peppy and sharp. Of course there's a good amount of banana. Nice and acidic. Fruity berries.
O: A very ordinary but incredibly sound Hefeweizen.

Appearance – Cloudy and hazy straw colour with dense white head of tight foam that has only average retention dying to a finger nail cover leaving some lace behind in the glass.

Smell – Very pleasant banana, biscuit and bean curd with very mild malt aroma profile. A great nose to this beer!

Taste – Sweet banana, spice and biscuit punch up front. This beer has a great mild malt middle and a sneaky little sticky toffee finish.

Mouthfeel – A sticky cloying finish from what is essentially a very creamy beer with great linger

Overall – Really very good with great aroma and lovely taste. This beer has a great profile and I will certainly be drinking it again!

Poured from a 50 CL bottle into a pint glass.
Aroma- Pure heaven! Wheat, spices and mild yeast follow through.
Appearance- A murky dark yellow with a large white head.
Taste- Incredible, I have always loved this beer from my overseas days to now. A perfect blend of the aromas into a fantastic flavor.
Palate- A medium boded beer with moderate carbonation. An outstanding velvety texture that compliments the flavor.
Overall- I love Hefeweizen style beer and I love this beer. World Class!!

Great hefe-weissbier of an ocher - a bit translucid – color. Foam is white and persistant, deliciously creamy.
Wheat is of course evident in the aroma and taste. Primary notes of apple and cinnamon and secondary notes of banana, cloves, coriander and other spices.
Body is really nice, carbonation is at great level, somewhat efervescent.

I really love this beer. Its fresh and bright with very creamy notes of vanilla and wheat. I also get subtle hints of orange and lemon zest to liven it up and give it more of a complex character. Truly a great Hefeweizen!

Appearance: Cloudy, orange-ish color with one finger of fluffy head that lingers quite a while but without much lacing.

Aroma: Lots of banana oil, wheat malt, some spiciness and a little citrus rind.

Taste: A bit thin on the front end as the yeast and spice grow, building carbonation until it becomes quite prickly, Lots of banana, clove, a little citrus rind bitterness, body builds with a nice wheat taste then finishing fairly fast and clean with just some lingering spice.

The Rest: An old standby that I've just never reviewed. All-day drinkable, and a nice, fairly balanced profile.

Had in tap sitting at a beer garden in front of the Rhine in Cologne. Pours yellowish golden orange colored with a creamy white head. Aroma of banana esters, yeast, some light coriander spice, maybe some sweet pears. Flavor follows suit with the aroma closely, with a slight bit of watery note where I wish the flavors would punch me in the mouth a bit harder. Light plus bodied with plus carbonation and easy drinking. Nice beer, but just not up to the likes of the Weihenstephaners of the world.

A very nice German Weiss-Beer. Great flavor of citrus peel and coriander, not too strong. Imported for Germany, sold in many common stores for a very low price. One of my favorite beers.
